Knowing all this, I am so glad that he was able to bounce back with voicing his second most iconic role: Eeyore (up until Disney took that away from him, too, a couple decades later, but I digress!).

They killed Eeyore too!

The Transformers also might have been an itty bitty in-and-out job that nobody remembered doing if it weren't for that meddling Wally Burr and his visionary belief that these toy commercial scripts deserved to be taken as seriously as any voice acting job could ever possibly be.

QFT!

In several convention panels and interviews, he recalled reading the script for the first time, being taken aback by Optimus's death scene, and then getting to the last page and being like, "I... I don't come back...?" He remembered turning to Frank Welker reading the script next to him and saying something like, "Hey, Frank, have you gotten to the end yet? I'm getting whacked!"
"You think you got it bad? I'm still alive, only now I'm voiced by Spock!"

Anyway, got tickets for the show, going to see it to report back here on if anything is changed or noteworthy/worth going out of your way for.

Glad they changed the theming, though. That was going to be really awkward.

The gesture and pivot are appreciated.

They probably had this poster and many other pieces on hand just in general, not specifically for this/in case of this, and it's nice work overall -- but the composition is so strange. Not least for how pasted-in Hot Rod/Rodimus looks. There's a quasi-religious iconography vibe to it, between the "wound in his side" and other battle scars and the exposing of the "sacred heart Matrix", that I'm not sure how to feel about.

It IS funny how it avoids minimizing Hot Rod while, uh, minimizing him.

unluckiness

Somehow still sane

I think it’s a terribly composed poster. Optimus is wearing a silly orange viking helmet and Rodimus looks like he’s a PNG with transparency photoshopped on top of that.

I mind one of those less than the other. The maw works as a twisted kind of makeshift halo, which combines with the speed(?) lines to form a nimbus -- combining with the other elements to evoke that religious iconography stuff I noted earlier.

Hot Rod/Rodimus just being plopped on there in that way kind of compromises the whole thing. Which is... weirdly on brand for this movie.

The placement of Unicron's horns is a bit unfortunate, as it kind of makes Optimus look a little bit devilish.

It's the art from the cover of the soundtrack rerelease by Matt Ferguson.

I really like it fwiw.

Ferguson does indeed tend to have consistently good art, Transformers and otherwise. It's not always the most striking, but it tends to be solid. This one is too, and there's some good stuff going for it, but also some oddness in the composition.

Just a Transformers the Movie 40th logo would have sufficed and been respectful. Let's face it, the movie was somewhat marred by death for eighties kids who were lured there to see their favorite characters slaughtered.
