So I got Studio Series '86 Springer
Which I know isn't part of this line BUT getting him made re-arrange some of my Wreckers and I just gotta say... I know he's not strictly the Prime aesthetic... but Legacy Bulkhead is FUN.
And seeing as I never cared about the names on boxes (Shockblast...
They each have their strengths and weaknesses and I agree, it's pretty much a wash. I almost didn't get the new one because I have the original and he was perfectly fine and not in need of an update. I went ahead though, after hearing a lot of positive buzz.
I think they both do a good job...
TR is probably my favourite "recent" line (and it's nearly ten years old, 🤬 me) and PotP just felt like a massive letdown. Some good stuff happened during that line but most of it felt like catching up on CW with some TR integration tossed in. Nothing felt as "complete" like TR, which almost...
It's a neat concept in theory and it did give us the first (and only) mass retail take on Sunbow Orion Pax.
But... it's hard to fit into a traditional collection because there are much better versions of G1 Optimus out there.
So this thing's big appeal to collectors is as a novelty.
My...
Same. I'm quite content with ER Prime and skipped Missing Link, so Legacy G1 Prime looks like a fun exploration of the concept "what if just G1 but with joints?" whereas Commander Prime offers me nothing but something I don't need (have ER Prime) or want (slavish Sunbow deco).
The whole Pretender thing never worked for me. I guess some of the Decepticons work because they're monsters but who the hell is seeing a giant human (big enough to hold a Transformer inside) in knock-off He-Man armour and going "seems legit!"
I assume the action figure buying public of the year of our lord 2000 + 24 expects new product to be more articulate than rubbery plastic shells sold in the 80s.
So now you're essentially trying to engineer a fully functional action figure that hides another action figure that can transform...
If they really wanted to lean into the Japanese angle I'd dig a Drift with an alt mode that approximates a Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86. Initial D Drift let's do it.
Honestly I prefer how they're treated now. Designs that mix the inner robot and shell design. I have no interest in trying to make the shell concept work.
No, not at all.
I adore that mould so much I still use the Blurr version of it as my collection's Blurr.
Drift is really fun and, even back then, felt like something of an event. Sure, his initial comic outing didn't do his character the most favours but his design was spot on. He felt like his own thing, his...
It's kind of a hard gimmick to pull off in the modern world of toy design... and given the scaled down size of the whole thing it was going to be tiny anyway.
