Thing is as soon as I heard what the PotP Leader class gimmick was, I knew that's what they'd do for Primal. It just makes sense. I mean... I know it's technically Optimus Prime's spark he's carrying in BW, but it looks a hell of a lot like the Matrix and in my mind the Optimal Optimus body is...

Shockwave was one of the choices and I suspect his "super mode" probably informed the Siege Leader we got. Anyway Unknown Evil was Deathsaurus

I just saw the front of his car mode and knew what it was and my child brain just went "Bumblebee = VW Bug" When I got Netflix Bumblebee I got this feeling like "yes this is the version that was always in my head" even though it wasn't accurate to either the toy or show.

This is worth it for the lion head alone. I love you Hasbro that ghost horse face wasn't working.

That's kind of how I feel about it. Like as a dumb child I knew what a VW Bug was but didn't realize Bumblebee was a deformed, squat version of it. In my mind I just accepted that Bumblebee was a VW Bug and left it at that. Which means that Netflix 'Bee feels more like what I've always pictured...

Transformers: One - New Animated Prequel coming September 20th, 2024 - New Toy Official Images!

If you wanted to suggest that more people know Transformers from the live action movie than the Sunbow show I wouldn't argue, but I'd still say the Sunbow version remains the most well known animated form of the franchise, which still makes it a useful touchstone when discussing a new animated movie

Earthrise being so G1 faithful KINDA leaned into that. The G1 Autobots were a weird mix of cars you might see on the street and incredibly specific racing cars with a few luxury sports cars tossed in 😆 But figures like Cliffjumper, (Netflix) Bumblebee, Trailbraker, Hoist, Ratchet, Ironhide...

Given how they seemed to at least have a general sense of where they were going during the PWT it's really weird that they knew the upgrading Leader class gimmick was coming and decided to do PMOP in the line right before it instead. ... why? I guess doing a vanilla G1 Optimus in PotP instead...

Or how he can't hold his guns. Or even his Animated hammer easter egg. My last inklings for the IDW1 aesthetic died when I saw Legacy Skids and realized he's everything I ever needed from the character and Generations IDW Skids just looked... off

My tastes have always skewed towards toy rather than Sunbow... If SS 86 Bee was the first G1 Bumblebee since Classics I'd be all in on him but we have Netflix Bumbelee and a specially more Sunbow-y take just doesn't hit right. But at the same time Netflix Bee had historically bad distribution...

Transformers: One - New Animated Prequel coming September 20th, 2024 - New Toy Official Images!

My grad work was focused on Medieval northern European history, so you'll forgive me if I saw "Danelaw" and defaulted to the historical definition. Kind of an interesting take tbh. "I don't like that my fandom in science fiction properties was dismissed. Anyway sportsball am I right?" Like...

Transformers: One - New Animated Prequel coming September 20th, 2024 - New Toy Official Images!

I'd wager most non-fans/general audiences know Transformers from the G1 Sunbow show first, the live action movies second, and the G1 Marvel comics a distant third. Cyberverse, Prime, EarthSpark, the UT, BW, whatever... They're all great but they're not what John A Public thinks of when he...

City Commander was the first 3P thing I ever bought, and probably the first thing I "splurged" on as a TF fan. I loved that thing but he was not without his flaws. The giant stuff gun was the worst offender, but you can kind of see how that idea got refined through Siege and Kingdom.

For me the IDW aesthetic had a shorter self life than maybe I thought it would. So CW Magnus is just... fine I guess but that style isn't my cup of tea. Though he's fun to break out with KI Magnus and do the IDW thing where they're both two different characters wearing different versions of the...

Thing is I prefer KI Magnus and I guess that's my point. I don't mind Hasbro redoing stuff from only a few years ago if the new version is dedicated to doing something different (screen accuracy and car carrier vs in scale robot mode and armour gimmick). Choice is good, and I'm not gonna bash...

I'm not counting back between MP Magnus and SS 86 Magnus, I'm counting between Kingdom Magnus and SS 86 Magnus. KI Magnus was a 2021 release. SS 86 Magnus was a 2023 release. That we got two entirely different Earth mode G1 Magnuses (Magni?) not even three years apart is wild to me, someone old...
