Man that Unicron is so cool. But there's no way I can justify it given our space situation right now. I'm sure the hubby would love "hey I know we agreed my collectables would stay in the study but... hear me out... what if I kept this giant Transformer the size of a child on our kitchen table?"
Nah I can't get on board with that. Yes, I'm sure there are producers and studio execs who want to make as much money on a cheap product as possible (horror films are super easy to get greenlit because of that) but do you know how many people are involved in the production of a movie that sees a...
Generally speaking one must have a positive recollection of the character to want a toy of said character 😛
I'm glad I binged BM in uni because it helped me pull a 180 on the franchise but even a fresh viewing and digging the themes they were going for couldn't get me to like Nightscream...
Eh I've been waiting for members of the Thirteen in toy form for years and I'll gladly kick Strika and the rest of the BM gang down the road by a few years if it means getting them.
Then again the whole "Prime" mythology is right up my alley so 🤷🏻♂️
Giving some BM guys some love isn't a bad idea but I see "better scaled BM" tossed out there I think "core class?"
'cause that's what would put them in "proper" scale to the Deluxe and up G1 characters
I have a kinder take on FP than you but I do agree about them having a noticeable aesthetic. So much so that when one of their designers did one of the MachineRobo Action Toys figures I was like WAIT A GOSH DARN MINUTE... FP? Is that you?
All of FP's upgrade kits were really fun. And their standalone figures got better. In fact the last 3P remnant in my collection is their faux-Dai Atlas.
But Warbot Defender was rough. And it's hard to see how anyone saw that as better than what HasTak was doing, even back then
I wonder if how much of that excess in MP is really a first crack at trying to solve a problem or designers just being very indulgent?
I'm a Brave fan. And I own the only two Brave MPs Takara put out. I adore them but they are also far more complicated than they need to be in order to sell the...
I'd only really see that as a "racially tinged insult" if Lorenzo Di Bonaventura said something like "people like you should be grateful to work on this project."
That seems pretty clear cut.
But even if it was just "someone like you should be grateful to work on this project" that could just...
A lot of the toys from Siege onward have found rather simple and elegant solutions to issues MPs can't solve without five rotating panels each.
Sometimes being restrained by a smaller budget brings out the best answers.
Steven Caple Jr and Lorenzo Di Bonaventura got into arguments over the film- no idea if they were salary related or artistic differences- but they were not seeing eye to eye.
Di Bonaventura reportedly said Caple Jr should consider himself lucky to be involved in a big budget blockbuster that...
And when that toy was released I was eleven, the internet was something my parents used, and I was first introduced to the form via Beasties when Optimus Primal got it after taking in the Spark of Optimus Prime in a very Matrix-y looking container.
I don't think I saw the toy for another couple...
The draw of the figure was Optimal Optimus 🤷🏻♂️ To me the Optimus Primal figure gave the figure a surfboard as an homage to TM Primal, and he's a pretty ok "Cybertronian" mode Primal. I donno. I don't get the hate.
We ended up with a proper update of Optimus Primal for Kingdom anyway.
To me...
