Transformers Legacy toyline

I'm not even touching the potential political nature of this other than to say that the YEAR makes sense for such a themed release (I'm surprised Transformers is getting in on it, seems more a GI Joe thing, but why only have one finger in one pie), and I'd guess these have been slotted and scheduled for some time.

It doesn't look half bad, but it's definitely not essential (especially after the litany of other stuff they're churning out that takes precedence). I wish they'd just made a Beast Machines Silverbolt from this mold already. Or better yet, one of the ROTB ones.

I’m impressed how they bungled this deco. All they had to do was red, white and blue, maybe with stars and stripes. Where did the sky blue come from?

I'm surprised Hasbro didn't read the (international) room and refrain from such a nationalistic release in this political climate (The wretched thing even has an arguably MAGA red hat on the top of the head) but at least it can be used (as-is or slightly repainted) as a stand-in for Blue-Bolts.

Things are planned two years ahead of time; this was likely decided and pitched to Walmart back in 2024. They could have canceled it, of course, but I imagine that's a bit trickier when it's already promised to a retailer.

Plus, again, the occasion itself would have been on their radar years ago to plan something for. Entirely unrelated companies latch on to Valentine's Day, this would make even more sense to jump on.

The specifics escape me at the moment, but there's been a few instances of companies and products that seem to have been planned or scheduled in 2023/4 with the expectation that the country would not spend the next year or so cratering itself.

Yup, that makes sense.

I get it being an eagle, too, but I'm kind of surprised they didn't use an Optimus for this. He's already even most of the way there, and there are Deluxes they could use. Although i guess a trailered one would work better; my mind immediately went to the Micromaster Combiner Battlefield Headquarters which always felt odd festooned in red and white and blue and stars and stripes. But perhaps too on the nose.

MAGA's been a thing way longer than 2 years.

That much is true. And the last time some dipshit snuck a reference to that into a toyline, Hasbro explicitly disavowed it. The fact that it had to be snuck in rather than something that was front and center suggests this is not something the company is comfortable dabbling in and associating itself with.

From what we've seen of this, it isn't the same as that. It's part of a handful of product meant to commemorate a big year and marketable occasion, rather than platform a political faction. Undead Scottsman's point is that this slate of product, along with others were seeing and will see, was being planned and solicited that far back, when the marketable anniversary wasn't foreseen to be in the middle of... All this.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Though it's a fun thought to have the cast of GIJoe glassy eyed, and shuffling through the streets of DC for an overweight cobra commander.

Edit: oh yeah, so what was the maga reference they removed from POTP jazz?

According to TF Wiki, the first run had MAGA written in Cybertronian glyphs underneath his faction symbol. It was removed in later runs.

Apparently the MAGA on Jazz was the result of a freelance artist who went rogue, and no one caught it because it was tiny and in a language only the hyper nerds would clock at first glance.

To Hasbro's credit the did apologize for it, and remove it as soon as they found out/were able to.

The extra red really does help sell the American flag motif. I'll likely get one if it's available around here (don't know why it wouldn't but distribution is a fickle thing), and might just add stripes like that myself.

I’d personally remove the sky blue altogether in favor of more dark blue. The flag has three colors and adding another messes with the motif. I’ll allow the yellow beak and the gray.
