There's also ones that have metal pins drilled through them, and have to flex a little so their tabs lock into the rest of the car.

Having recently gotten Windcharger, it's one of the things I'm not fond of on that mold. It's charming in that it's essentially a more lavish execution of the POTP design with a much better headsculpt (low bar to clear) and torso. But that whole back plate panel being painted clear plastic and how it seems to need to stretch just a little bit to latch on to the tab is concerning. Not as dire as the windshield AND rear window on the Earthrise Datsuns (I still crave SS86 Prowl-like opaque plastic rereleases that aren't dying/dead), but still.

And frankly, the Spychangers are in more need of an update that X-Brawn, anyway. X-Brawn's original toy is practically a flawless masterpiece.
I was going to say something about availability, but it looks like you can get the original on eBay for less than the cost of a new version.

I'm just sayin', if you really want a good G2 Motormouth, there's a perfectly good Spychanger Ironhide option for him to share a mold with, without even any need of retooling.

Well, the conversation started as being about X-Brawn, not Spychanger Ironhide, so that's what we were and then I was talking about.

I absolutely love the Vehicons - especially the hover car version. I kept most of mine and will have to dig them out at some point. It's been a while...

There are some good KO versions of them for sale, including the white one and one with an alternate head.

Wham, bam, in the van!

My first and only time working on a Flame Toys anything. Not really a model kit guy (the most I've done is Super Mini Pla stuff), but this was an interesting experience.

I ordinarily wouldn't even go in this direction, except this was the only real representation of the MTMTE design at the time. (I'd previously tried one of the third party ones but did NOT like the way the engineering worked, so that went bye bye along with a few other 3P things I'd tried out.) Now the high end Adamas Machina one is also out there, but idk if I'll ever have room in the budget for that. (I think there IS a less pricey KO of that also floating about now, but ehh.) I wish they'd done this kit in the Lost Light colors too.

Spray painted the yellow and light gray bits before assembly (the stock yellow is a bit too thin and light, and the stock light gray is likewise too flat). Kinda regret not masking some of the yellow parts as well as I should've, as the bicep halves were very hard to snap together as a result (the gap is pretty visible here). Tolerances are very tight in general; thought I was going to break the hips, elbows, and ankles (the first two have rubbery internal joints that you gotta push past, and the last is an ABS socket that feels way too tight for the ball at the base of the shin). Filed down some of the pointy bits because they are SHARP and there's a lot of them. I've yet to learn how to cut something from a sprue without sending it FLYING, and there are a lot of tiny pieces on this one that that nearly happened to. Fortunately, somehow, I always managed to see where they landed. But ugh.

No instructions for where the stickers go, so I had to look at various pictures of this online to tell what goes where (and I still have an Autobot sigil left over, but that may be a spare one). I lost one of the tiny leg vent circles, so I may just remove all of those and do that bit with black paint. Idk if these kits are meant to be glued together, but I may do that for some bits that are prone to falling off like the silver kneecap pieces.

(In contrast, the Blokees Wheels one was obviously much simpler to put together.)

On the whole, he's all right. Idk when I'll get the time to pose him with the excellent Fractured Friendship box set Optimus Prime. I wish there had been multiple face plates, including a smirking or smiling one. Because c'mon.
