Don't people still hate that Starscream? I remember everyone hating on it back when it came out.

Personally, I never had a problem with him but I think the main ccomplaint with Energon is that the story in the anime has poor direction as there's not enough story to fill up the whole run time of 52 eps, Cybertron/Galaxy force has a bit of a similar problem with its run time where they spend maybe a bit to long racing on the speed planet while other elements appearing later, get glosed over, such as Planet X, where Soundwave and Sidesways comes from

I never cared much for the Classics figure.

So imagine how disappointed I was when the official convention finally came to Rhode Island, the home of Hasbro, and the toy box set was three-fifths that mold.

I seem to remember it getting some love as the only "modern" G1 update of Starscream for a time, but everyone pretty much agreed it sucked once the Classics version dropped.
Yeah, I remember this more than any hate. I never really followed the discourse around it because my focus was more on stuff that got more regularly imported at the time, but I recall "this is cool" being a common sentiment. Although of course there were people who were aware of its flaws.

Funny enough, the Robotmasters take is among the things the new SS86 Seeker reminds me of at first glance for some reason.

It was a toy for a budget line and as cool as it was, its flaws were made all the more glaring when the Classics Seeker basically did the same trick. The pinhead with mushy face sculpt, the weedy arms, the lack of knees, the ball jointed wings that got loose way too quickly... it at least was in the right place at the right time to be one in probably the most iconic Transformers Robot Chicken sketch, so there's that.

I have a distinct memory of someone ranting about the Classics Seeker mould back in 2007 (IIRC) on the old TFormers message board, about how it took liberties with the F-15 design. And that the Robot Masters mould, for all of its glaring flaws, was superior because it kept faithfully to that F-15 design.

No one really took that seriously back then, and it's even funnier now. The Classics mould is a pretty faithful F-15, just making some minor adjustments to the wing shape. Probably to get out of paying Boeing a licensing fee.
I suppose we all have our lines in the sand, but I'm a pretty big nerd about military aviation, and it never occurred to me to be bothered by that.

I just remember a user here a few years back posting nothing but lamentations about not finding Robot Masters Starscream cheap.
