There's a couple of reasons for that, I think. Number one is that it takes a while for things like that to marinate. When something wacky and different comes along, its judged (often negatively) at first by how different it is than what was expected, but given some time, the fandom often comes...
Almost every Transformer I ever bought myself as a child was purchased from KB (the sole exception that I can remember being having my mom order Iguanus and Groundbreaker from the Sears catalog for me). The most vivid memory I have is of picking out and buying Carnivac. I remember getting him...
They famously never got rid of anything until it sold. They would just continue marking things down and down, for YEARS if necessary, until someone finally bought it for 17 cents or whatever.
I only remember KB from my childhood, so "distribution" wasn't a thing I was aware of. I only knew of toys existing the moment I saw them on the shelf. It was the only Toy Store in my town (there were toy SECTIONS in other stores, but nothing like KB), so my memories of them are all still fond...

Just thinking about Nexus Prime, and I know I already made this comparison to the stock robot mode, but then I started thinking about what Nexus looked like in the moslty white and red Superion frame and how close it aligned to Gobots Courageous, and realized that I would definitely buy a Toyhax...
He Steve Urkle'd Detective Comics! Get back to stories about Slam Bradley! (Full disclosure, I 100% had to look up what issues 1-26 were about. Slam Bradley was just the most fun to say of the non-incredibly-racist names I came across)
