  1. Star Trek: The Original Series and The Next Generation

And like George Lucas, another highly influential figure on modern sci-fi, Roddenberry's ideas tend to turn out that much better when there are people under him with the stones to say "no, you may've gone too far", or to moderate some of his more extreme ideas. When those people are absent, we...
  2. Star Trek: The Original Series and The Next Generation

It was mostly very early on in TNG's run that scenes that like (kinda cheesy) Wesley clip occurred... when Gene had more influence over the writing, and had the characters represent his idealized future humanity... for more insight into that, read "James T. Kirk's" (I suspect written by Gene...
  3. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Romulans probably have a pretty similar lifespan to Vulcans. T'Pol was in her 60s during Enterprise.
  4. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

The beginning of the Last Crusade was meant to tie in to the Young Indy stuff, which is why it feels like a kind of irritating cash-grab. Hard to cut it out entirely, though, as it does setup the mcguffin for the story. I honestly didn't mind Dial of Destiny's opening. Nazis were punched...
  5. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

It's a shame this one didn't have a better opening. To me, it felt much more like a traditional Indy adventure than Crystal Skull. It also felt more real and visceral, whereas Crystal Skull had that aura of digital artifice where everything is just too clean (even the dirt). Whether that's...
  6. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Yeah, honestly, of all the things in this episode that was what I had the hardest time swallowing, too. Pre-9/11, you could just stroll across the border without even having a passport, but the good old days of people trusting each other are long gone. And bribes won't work, unless every single...
  7. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

The Eugenics War could've easily began as a regional conflict and then bled straight into WWIII. That would be a retcon I don't really take any issue with.
  8. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Liked the attention to obscure detail in this... the holographic UI on that device La'an was given was clearly TCARS, last seen used aboard the USS Relativity in Voyager. Also, it was a real pleasure to see my hometown displayed so prominently, and as itself for once, not dressed up as Chicago...
  9. The DC...Extended Universe or Films or Whatever

Certainly a valid point, and as always I'll give pretty much any superhero flick a go (other than Sony's crap like Morbius and Kraven). Superman's been played so many times, in both film and TV, he's going to have a lot to live up to. I honestly wouldn't have minded if they'd just taken the...
  10. The DC...Extended Universe or Films or Whatever

Never heard of him. He looks more like a soap opera actor, very generic.
  11. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

I can't believe anyone would prefer Bay's excrement to this. The Bay films are trash and best left forgotten and unconnected to this new, hopefully better, series.
  12. Ezra Miller is somehow The Flash in the DCEU

It's hard to get an audience excited about your new movie when the people now leading the studio have announced that the entire continuity is basically cancelled, and everything that might happen in these movies means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things.
  13. Ezra Miller is somehow The Flash in the DCEU

I enjoyed it, but not quite as much as I thought I would. I loved seeing Keaton return as Batman, though. He really brought a lot to the rule as an older Bruce. I do wonder how he learned so much about time travel and the space-time continuum. It would've been neat if they'd added a few hints...
  14. Ezra Miller is somehow The Flash in the DCEU

Got my ticket for 6pm show this Friday. Pretty psyched to see Keaton return as Batman after all these years.
  15. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

I was pleasantly surprised by this film, as I was by Bumblebee before it (which this seems to be a follow-up to?). And I'm assuming all the pre-Bumblebee stuff is a separate continuity? While I enjoyed the very first Bay TF film back in the day (for what it was, anyway), I haven't been able to...
  16. Star Trek: The Original Series and The Next Generation

If anything, TNG brought even more "nerd" types into it. There's absolutely nothing about it that appeals to any mainstream. Voyager is the only series I'm aware of that's enjoyed by people who can't get into other Trek series.
  17. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Boimler's stuttering on the transporter bad pretty much stole the show as far as the trailer was concerned, so I have high hopes for that episode.
  18. Star Trek: The Original Series and The Next Generation

And he had cameo in First Contact, which was apparently a pretty last minute thing he agreed to come out and do during the shoot. Personally, I had no clue about his role on A-Team. I hadn't even heard of the show back then. I think Barclay's main appeal is that his character spoke to many in...
