  1. Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Saw it this weekend, and I also really enjoyed it. This didn't have an equivalent to the infamous boardroom scene, although it did have a few "intense" moments (one in particular on the roof of the school stands out in my mind) and the movie clearly doesn't mind its villains flat-out murdering...
  2. Star Trek: Picard

I'm still convinced that nobody on the Picard writing teams knows what TNG meant when it referred to androids like Data, Lore, Julianna Tainer, etc. Also, wasn't there some sideplot in an episode of the last season about needing to get Picard to a doctor... in the 21st century? Is he some kind...
  3. Shazam! Fury of the Gods

I can see how it would terrify a child, but that boardroom scene was one of the best things about the film.
  4. Star Trek General Discussion

They certainly seemed to have learned from the criticism the first couple seasons endured and filled this to the brim with nostalgia bait and "remember that?" moments. The "Okudagrams" end credit sequence was masterfully done, and I agree the ship design this time around is appealling.... though...
  5. The DC...Extended Universe or Films or Whatever

It's glorious to hear the Elfman Batman theme again... I really want to see this, but I just know I'm going to be inevitably pissed off when James Gunn announces a few weeks later (after it's made the bulk of its profit) that the whole thing is nullified, Keaton will never appear again, etc, etc...
  6. Star Trek General Discussion

But without the health implications that 21st century processed food tends to have.
  7. Star Trek: Picard

It's quite amazing how every entry into TNG after First Contact has just gotten progressively worse. I'm glad the real TNG is forever preserved on blu-ray, and in HD quality. I'll take the worst of the first six Trek films over the very best of any of those that came after.
  8. Star Trek General Discussion

In TOS, the Enterprise had some kind of rudimentary food synthesizers, but they made these: At least I hope to God those abominations weren't made by someone in a kitchen somewhere in the underbelly of the ship. Our astronauts eat better than that, even today. By the time we see the galley...
  9. The DC...Extended Universe or Films or Whatever

Trading Aquaman for Lobo seems like something of a downgrade, IMO. The character isn't interesting enough to have his own film, and he's hardly arch-nemesis material.
  10. The DC...Extended Universe or Films or Whatever

I have to admit, the end of Black Adam kind of made me start looking forward to see Caville come back as Superman (after all, the script issues with Man of Steel weren't his fault), but now the whole thing seems to be thrown in the garbage? These constant changes and announcements and...
  11. Wednesday (And Family)

Although I have to admit I do prefer the somewhat darkly suave, handsome version of Gomez (who's still goofy) popularized by the two 90s films, the history of the character does allow for either interpretation, as shown above. As far as Wednesday goes, I think they did a stellar job casting...
  12. Timey Wimey Business- a thread for Doctor Who

Honestly, I'm not too interested in anything more from him, at this point. The way he's shunned the role in the years since is pretty off-putting. There should be a limit on how long the invitation to come back even lasts for him. Especially off-putting from the man who played a space elf in a...
  13. Star Trek: Picard

I'll give it a chance, if only for Moriarty and Lore. The first 2 seasons of ST: Discard made me physically ill, but what the hell; this is the last go around. The amount of pointless generic CGI space action in the trailer don't give me that much hope, though. The most I'm hoping for is that...
  14. The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Animation looks about what I expected... like a cutscene from one of the modern HD games but with a massive budget thrown behind it. I'll likely see this if only just for the visuals and the (I'm sure) huge number of easter egg characters and items that be thrown into the background. Bowser's...
  15. Star Trek: Picard

Looks a bit more like an Excelsior, to me. It has the same type of deep-inset deflector array, slightly "squashed" looking (relatively to the Constitution's circular) secondary hull, and a comparatively stubby neck connecting to the saucer section.
  16. Prey (Predator 5) - streaming on Hulu

Truly a shame dumping this on some trashy streaming service. It deserved a theatrical release, and deserves to sit alongside the first two as a blu-ray or 4K on people's shelves. Although I'll always love Predator 2 as a schlocky 80s action flick with a sci-fi bent, Prey is easily the equal of...
  17. Does anyone still make headphones like these?

Jabra makes quite a few office headsets, both wired and wireless options. I've had the Evolve2 40 (wired) for a few months now and use it for Microsoft Teams meetings, and it's been pretty good. Raising the headset automatically mutes the mic...
  18. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

I'm definitely not feeling the choice for Kirk, either. If this were a younger, less-seasoned pre-Captain Kirk then perhaps I could buy into it, but the Kirk we were treated to in the finale is contemporaneous with Season 1 of TOS. And he definitely didn't have the charm or confidence Shatner...
  19. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

What about the utterly pointless, tasteless scene with Icheb in Picard?
  20. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Enterprise certainly made them more threatening than that lumbering dude in TOS. Mirror Archer was a total lunatic, and even he looked worried when that dude he was torturing told him the Tholian's slave master was a Gorn. SNW may have overpowered them just a bit, though. They seem to have all...
