They're willing to do that to $1 billion. They will pull the park.

Ironbite-and DeSantis gets to go down as the governor who killed the state.

This is an ominous sign for us but the idea that they could pull the park is just silly. It's about the size of San Francisco. It's not something they just pack that on a truck and move somewhere else. They're stuck here. They're just going to dig in any deeper.

That alone will sting though. We don't produce much. We are entirely dependent on outside money and always have been. Any canceled investment hurts.

It's likely, if anything, to be a gradual scaling back of Disney activities in Florida.

Probably unrelated, Disney are shutting down the Star Wars Hotel that they just launched last year in Florida. I understand it had been struggling financially so it's hard to say how much influence DeSantis's vendetta has had on the decision, but again, it's Florida losing out on a Disney attraction.

Never heard of it.

The madness is spreading...

"An Italian restaurant in Scotland’s biggest city has been forced to change its adverts featuring the world-renowned sculpture after the ad business Global Media Group blocked them because of David’s nudity...

...
In March, the principal of a school in Florida resigned after students at a Christian charter school in Tallahassee were shown the statue of David, prompting at least one parent to complain that the children had been exposed to pornography..."

Numerous police officers lured to new jobs in Florida with cash from Governor Ron DeSantis’s flagship law enforcement relocation program have histories of excessive violence or have been arrested for crimes including kidnapping and murder since signing up, a study of state documents has found.

League of United Latin American Citizens lol DeSantis won the majority of the Latino vote and flipped Miami-Dade. Absurd theater.

Speaking of which, rumor is he's announcing his inevitable presidential campaign tomorrow on... a Twitter Spaces with Elon Musk...?

Sounds kind of dumb. I thought Spaces was audio only, right? He's doing other stuff that day, but if this is the main way he announces it seems terminally online.

Although there are now several people in the race, Trump was probably inevitable anyway, but the non-Trumps seem doomed to divide the vote and let Trump's solid 30+% walk away with the winner-take-all primary spoils in a repeat of 2016.

If this turns out to be the way he announces his campaign, I don't understand it. He has enough genuine popularity in Florida that he could find a live audience for a traditional rally if he wants one, and right now he needs that live audience energy. People will say it's early, but at some point he does need to recapture at least the appearance of momentum. His announcement should give him a boost. This sounds weak.

Maybe it doesn't matter. Trump's announcement fell completely flat, and look where we are 6 months later. But, he was first and therefore still on top by default. DeSantis is behind in a growing field. A limp announcement might have more risk for him.

Yeah, I sort of figured Trump's famous for his boisterous arena crowds, if you want to introduce yourself as an alternative fight fire with fire and show you can generate energy, too. There's an announcement video, he's doing some media (Trey Gowdy...? Okay...) and some other stuff, but it's very underwhelming. A solid announcement for someone polling 3% no one's heard of, not so much the challenger with the most juice.

The Twitter Spaces kept crashing and couldn't handle the 500k people trying to join. Elon restarted it and it's working right now with about 200k people now. If this unusual venue was chosen to generate news not sure this is what the DeSantis campaign wanted, the focus is going to be on Spaces barely working.

But I agree end of the day may not matter. There are other dynamics at play.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Which is just the desantis campaign continuing his current trend "overshadowed by issues".

I'm pretty sure even Jeb! arranged a live crowd for his announcement speech. This is embarrassing.

This is the most amazing thing ever. It's like he was forced into finally running for President.

Ironbite-I expect this to go to the convention after he's schooled in debates and in the polls but he won't give up.
