I love the idea of James Bond being a code name, and am disappointed that the continuity doesn't seem to allow for it.

Plus, I also understand that the Eon Productions was pretty well against it, too.

But then, they don't own Bond anymore -- Amazon MGM does.

Personally, I don't know if there's any intent to reboot the franchise, but if they do, I'd love to see that be something incorporated into it.

Maybe for fun, even some of the past Bond films could be part of that, or at least a version of them in the history (so as to get around the hang-ups).

As an aside, I love legacy heroes -- Batman, Power Rangers, Optimus Primal and Rodimus Prime, Donkey Kong, and the Mega Man lineage, among others, so I might be biased there.

Casino Royale has the James Bond legacy name, the multiple James Bonds, and the Bond played by a comedian with a well-known role in a similar genre. It seemed topical.

They have to. Craig died at the end of his run. Any new Bond movie will have to be disconnected from Craig's era. And rumours are that they're looking to cast a younger Bond and explore how he gets recruited to MI6.

Now me? I'd say nuts to that. Craig's Bond got obliterated when a barrage of missiles destroyed the island he was on. I'd put the new Bond in the clothes Craig was wearing when he died, having him pop out of the water clutching some driftwood, and make a "that was a close one" quip before jumping to credits.

See, I never liked the code name theory. I thought it was cool when newer Bond actors referenced past events. Added gravitas to the whole thing. And if you watch them in order it's nice to see the continuity matter. Like this...

... hits different when you put it in context with this.

It was fan speculation for a bit but who knows if it was ever considered? He's around Daniel Craig's age, so if Craig was aging out then Elba wouldn't be a long term answer there anyway.

At some point, I need to dig out more van transformers, but this is what I had close to hand:

I like Mysterious Prime quite a bit. Still not sold on the heads, but I haven't landed on an alternative option that I like better. Robot mode reminds me of Energon Tow Line, I think because of the prominent windshield. Automutt is decent enough. My biggest complaint is no great place to store Automutt and the ascots in van mode.

Anyway, they could still reference continuity, they'd just have to do it a different way.

So, pondering on Mysterious Prime a little more, there is an episode of "What's New, Scooby Doo" where the Mystery Machine appears to be possessed and chases the gang. Mostly the lights turn green, but damage during the chase gives it a sort of "mouth", and coloring errors tend to make it appear more green in general.

...I know redecos of Collaborative figures are rare (but not unprecedented), but I'm wondering if a redeco of Mysterious would be an option with heads based on classic S-D monsters. The Kooky Space Freak and Charlie the Fun Park Robot come to mind, maybe the Black Knight, and one other would make for a neat variation, maybe as a Halloween release?
