I only know a couple memes, and I haven't the slightest clue of their context.
As far as I know, NGE was hugely influential on mecha anime, and anime in general. It holds a position in Japan that, like, Star Wars does in America. It's everywhere, still, to this day.
Oh yes, very much.NGE is an excellent piece of work, while simultaneously being all the way up its own a**
I wouldn't say it's the Star Wars (I feel like that's Macross, or at least it used to be), but it's definitely up there. The fact that it also appeals to the separate-yet-related tokusatsu fandom is part of it too, of course. As far as I know, NGE was hugely influential on mecha anime, and anime in general. Anno was also famously having mental health issues during the production of the original series (exacerbated by problems related to the production itself). He's in a much healthier place now, which is why his modern works are generally less bleakly nihilistic.I’m convinced Anno intentionally sabotages the ending every single time given how excellent his work with properties he doesn’t own are.
