It makes me wonder if there will be a molded-in heart detail inside his chest...

I don't think you can read anything into AotP ending at the end of 2026 and Nexus' limbs and frame coming in 2027. These sublines for Generations aren't hard and fast rules.

Buzzsaw showed up in CW, and he was a preview for TR.
PotP was basically bonus content for both CW and TR.
Siege had Apeface and ER had Snapdragon, two characters who fit the TR play pattern to a t.
Kingdom started a Generations Beast Wars collection that continued through Legacy and AotP.
We're still getting TR Deluxes.
Animated Generations figures started in Legacy and have continued into AotP. Same with the UT. Technically UT started showing up in Siege.

I'm just saying that 2027 will likely be called something else, year one of a new subline. That was never a hinderance to using some slots to fill out previous lines though. They've been doing it for years.

I do think @CoffeeHorse is onto something with the gap between Nexus and his team, but that doesn't necessarily mean they've scrambled over the last two days to pivot. From what they said it sounds like Nexus was a hard nut to crack for them. He was going to be a Leader, and then he got shuffled into Voyager. Then they considered making him a Duocon but couldn't make that work. It just sounds like he was kind of a problem to get right, and by the time they settled on "Voyager and we'll get his limbs out separately" it was already 2027 in the pipeline.

If it was gonna be any of the CW/POTP molds, it would've been Hot Spot. But the frames are the new combiner gimmick, so it was never gonna happen.

unluckiness

Somehow still sane

I'm against the idea just because of the stupid gappy wings. No, it doesn't look cool, it doesn't look futuristic. It just shows off the robot parts sitting underneath.

This is the tricky thing about shifting to the frame system. It's two items (Voyager ish robot/'vehicle and frame) and one of a far more limited number of slots for the whole year... although it would be a "whole" combiner, even if only in an Armada Prime "combines with trailer" sort of way. It's at least a whole combined mode with arms and legs even if no accompanying limbs get produced yet.

Both that and a CW style torso bot would deliver on at least "Nexus makes combining possible", but the latter would fit neatly into a Voyager slot and all's well. But there's no point pining for a system that's a decade gone (/crumbles into dust), so the only option left is the Voyager half of the frame-packing Commander. Maybe the 2027 limbs will be packed in with just the frame, which they probably won't do but would be hilarious. Even better if the frame is Silverbolt's, retooled to be a giant Enigma of Combination.

It's kind of funny and neat that we got a Nexus Prime AND a totally different (and great) Heatwave in the same run.

Oh well.
