Agh, right, I blanked on the Jetfire thing because he got identified later. Now I'm recalling getting hyped and everything when it was leaked, lol.

Eh, it's hard keeping track of leaks.

1. Mark confirms that he saw the Geoff Senior art of Liege Maximo from Alignment and misinterpreted the three ships flying around his hand as the Liegian Darts.
You were right, congratulations.

Lines are planned two years in advance, so if the limbs are coming out in 2027, they were making plans for it back in 2025.

Yeah, planning a whole line and getting it all into production takes a long time. I don't think it takes two years to order some repaints or even remolds from current tooling.

Combiner Wars wasn't planned to have a Bruticus. It didn't take two years to make it happen after they realized they had a runaway hit on their hands.

There's more to it than just the design and tooling, there's budgets to consider. They can't just manifest four deluxes out of thin air; they would have already spent time and money on next years line-up and I don't find it likely they would scrap or delay those plans so they can introduce four deluxes, for the sole reason of trying to appease people who are angry about a single voyager toy.

They might not know how this is going to work yet. I 100% believe this is a pivot.
I... don't know about that.
The original "reveal" of Nexus Prime wasn't a Hasbro deal. It was a leak of some stock photos.

That happens fairly regularly and Hasbro usually ignores it. They couldn't here though, because the response was so negative. Everything from Mark showing off Nexus' Combiner torso mode compatibility to Nexus' inclusion on this stream was Hasbro being forced to announce plans ahead of when they'd have liked to announce them.

It's entirely possible that had Nexus' stock photos not been leaked, Hasbro would still be sitting on him and likely would have unveiled him months down the line with some more information on how the limbs and frame would be released. I don't see this as a pivot so much as a leak that garnered a very negative response forcing Hasbro to talk about plans before they were ready to talk about them.

But these stock photos were ready to go, along with the rest of a giant batch. The intended reveal can't have been that far away. I bet it was supposed to be a Toy Fair reveal, which is next week. So we only saw this guy a week early.

I just can't believe that they were already planning to make Nexus Prime's limbs but not release them any time in the year of Nexus' reveal. The limbs are coming in 2027. It's only February. December of this year is too soon from now. I can't imagine anyone planning it that way on purpose.

I think there may have been a pivot, but not in the day/s between the pictures showing up and the fanstream, and I don't think that's what CoffeeHorse meant. (To be fair, I am not sure if that's what LordGigaIce meant CoffeeHorse meant; ironically I need coffee rn)

There may have been plans to have an in-AOTP or concurrent release via fan channel or whatever, then those had to change at some point, probably before the rollout of or in the early stages of AOTP.

Also WOW my sense of time is totally borked. I thought Toy Fair had come and gone for some reason. Different Toy Fair.

I probably will be skipping Nexus, but I'm really curious to see what his limbs are.

The FunPub dudes? Breakaway (jet) and Topspin (helicopter) are easy enough; Landquake (tank) IF Brawl can work as a leg with the Superion frame. No decent equivalent for Skyfall (Warthog) though, unless they just make him another jet.

New versions of the 'extra' CW limbs like Alpha Bravo, Rook, Offroad? Also would need some new molds there...

Toys of the Exiles novel Nexus dudes (Clocker, Mainspring, Chaindrive, Pinion, Cannonspring)?

Some other motley crew of pre-existing characters? New guys? The possibilities...

I actually do think they've been scrambling since the leak. It just seems like a ludicrous gap between now and whenever we're getting the limbs. Even the decision to make it look so much like the ONE design to me seems like a hint that they weren't sure they would be making dedicated limbs. I don't think it was set in stone that they definitely weren't making limbs, but they were on the "Maybe, if we need a parachute" list. I think they went with the ONE design thinking that made it standalone enough, and the torso mode was just for play value with Superion and Bruticus, for whatever that's worth. I think they thought they were covering all their bases there. But we freaked out, so they're going to make dedicated limbs happen. Someday. Whenever.

Heck, Evan didn't even say "next year". He said "other years", in a general statement about why they "usually" can't show off things from other years on packaging. That may not exactly be the story with Nexus Prime but everything he said could be true as worded. They could take until 2028 to find a place for the limbs and nothing they said in the stream today would be a lie.

Or it really was always going to be this spaced out. I just can't imagine why. I guess that does make it a better homage to the original, intentionally or not.

I think they just wanted the Nexus Prime combiner mode to be a surprise when they reveal the limbs later this year but they decided to show off the combiner functionality as damage control when the fandom collectively shat on Nexus.

Seems a waste to release the voyager then the frame later on when they could just wait a year to release a commander alongside the limbs.

Hopefully, they make a "Astrotrain/Spacewarp" that can then combine with the Armada Nemesis repaint (possibly with some colour adjustments to make it more cohesive with Nemesis).

Ah, apparently I also misread CoffeeHorse's post, yikes. But that clarified position makes sense too, in that what might have once been "let's get to them down the line, when we can" (the parachute metaphor) may have become "okay, definitely doing them and setting a timetable". There's room to interpret that as them having had that on the list -- especially with precedent of things and groups getting circled back to and completed in/across subsequent lines -- and it just being firmed up/recommitted to in the wake of this. Maybe there were even two pivots, one to push them back (perhaps out of necessity due to changes with AOTP's structure) and make the most of a lone Voyager now, and another to commit to slotting that pushed-back element into an as-soon-as-we-currently-can spot.

"Other years" is a good way to phrase it and probably what I'd have wanted to say in that position too (but not had the wherewithal to come up with, lol). It makes sense to avoid counting unhatched chickens, although it does sometimes result in oddities like a combiner element not being marketed as one (and making it seem like something they couldn't market, sparking speculation), without even the token # of # notation that the limbs get on the box.

Just watched the fanstream, it's interesting to get confirmation that they wanted to do Nexus in bigger size classes, but couldn't. It would have made more sense. I can't see the limbs being released individually, so I'm thinking some kind of boxed set later.

Given they started off with thinking he'd be a leader, it's not that hard to imagine that after they pushed him to voyager, they didn't have room in the 2026 line for the others If I'm counting right, there's 9 deluxes planned for 2026 in AotP; that's nearly half of the lineup they'd have to change to accommodate his limbs. Meanwhile, we've already had it confirmed for awhile now that there's no Defensor for next year, which would give space for the rest of Nexus Prime.

And again; it's a single voyager toy. When in the history of ever have they radically altered their plans, plans that take multiple YEARS, due to backlash towards a single figure? Where's Animated Wreck-Gar's mea culpa?

Maybe for Nexus, the plan is to release this for those who just want the core robot, and then a full Nexus Prime box set later?

There is a precedent for this: Scattershot in Combiner Wars, who first kludged together a Combiner called Betatron before we got the full Computron box set later.

The new AotP Deluxes look pretty alright. I was the most excited about Powerglide, but I don't understand what he's so mad about, lol. His eyes look really angry, IMO.
It's another callback to "The Girl Who Loved Powerglide."

Specifically, most of the scenes he shared with Astoria Carlton-Ritz.

Kind of expected to see Swindle in the mix, too. But he's Studio Series
Are you sure about that?
