our cat dippy had kittens a week ago today but, sadly, not even a day after the kittens were born - one of our dogs got into my sister's room (where the kittens were being kept) and wanted to play with them and...we lost two of them. this is the only surviving kitten. photo taken yesterday

it turns out one of our other cats leo (she is dippy's sister) was pregnant too and she had her kittens this morning but she had them outside and under the house, except for one kitten she left in the front yard and my sister brought that kitten inside and tried to put it in the shelter with the other kittens (dippy's surviving kitten and luna's (dippy and leo's mom) kittens) but leo was like 'NO' and decided underneath the closet in my den was going to be the kitten hiding spot

we need to get them a box with blankets for warmth, of course.

but also wow look at them.

Oh jeez, I'm sorry. We had a hamster holocaust like that here once.

I rarely post outside of the TF Discussion forum, but I lost my cat, Layla, today. She was 19 and was the oldest "patient" at my vet. She had been sick for a while (renal failure) and we had been keeping her comfortable. But she let us know that she was ready, and we took her in to be put down today.

The Allspark has always been my internet home, and it is so comforting to be able to process this kind of grief here. May the sun always shine brightly upon your face, my sweet girl.

I'm so sorry. I can relate - it's one of the hardest decisions we ever have to make.

I don't know if you can call them pets yet, but for the past month or two, we have been feeding some feral cats every night on our porch. We first saw them with their mom, but since then it's just been them. They still run from us and are very skittish when we sit with them while they eat. We have named them Sassy and Fade. Sassy will meow at you through the glass, but hiss once you come out with the food. Fade will disappear like a Romulan warbird until she knows it's safe to eat. I will have post a picture of them.

So my mom has this friend, who is in her 80s. That lady's family decided to get her a Labododle puppy for companionship. However, this is a walking black rug that likes to jump up on people and isn't trained at all, so she had to get rid of the dog. This was one of my wife's dream breeds of dogs, and she really wanted it, despite my objections.

My objections:

1. Our oldest daughter is deathly afraid of dogs and always freaks out around them, even little ones. Our other two girls aren't much better.
2. We have two indoor cats, so bringing in a hairy velociraptor not the best idea. Especially with my oldest wanting to get a third cat.
3. My wife would be the one to have to train the dog, and she already has a full plate.
4. Our house wasn't remotely ready for an indoor dog due to our kids trashing the place on a weekly basis.

However, at Thanksgiving, my wife manages to convince my girls that we should get the puppy. Even my oldest, who that morning had asked me for a kitten, was wanting the dog. After a few days to sleep on it, we got the dog. The kids and the wife came together to come up with a name for her, Zelda Fluffing.

Fade is the one with the darker face.

So update on this.

Fade was sadly hit and killed by a car early one morning on the busier road behind our house. I was really sad as Fade had opened up to us and would let us pet her, and if you put you finger on the glass window, she would put her paw on it. :) After that, we tried to take extra good care of Sassy. Sassy has really started to like us, and will let us pet her, and even let me pick her up a few times to get her to her food bowl on the outside table. We think that Sassy might be going into heat now, and we are debating if we want to trap her and keep her in the garage for a while to let her get bigger before possibly getting impregnated. Catching her won't be a problem, but I always liked having her and her sister as outdoor cats.

Aww, so sorry about Fade. Does your area have programs like Paws Watch that catch, neuter, and release for free?
