I can now walk up to Sassy and pet her, even without food. She likes to hang out in our bushes in front of the front porch, and she even meowed at me today when I left for work after lunch.

Aww, so sorry about Fade. Does your area have programs like Paws Watch that catch, neuter, and release for free?
Sorry, I thought I replied to this. Sadly not, we have a humane society that has a surprisingly good selection of dogs and cats, but nothing like that.

Last night, one of our cats - Simba - came into my den and suddenly collapsed and passed away...he was only about 1.5 years old.

He was such a nice cat. This was him a few months ago sleeping in my chair.

I miss him.

The family went on a beach trip without me this week, which means I get to take care of the chickens, cats, and the dog while they are gone. The older group of chickens are easy to handle as I pretty much just need to collect their eggs, but the dog might be harder to deal with. She is very untrained and spoiled. However, last night she managed to not eat anything that wasn't her food, so that is a step in the right direction.

So my wife managed to accomplish the impossible. She made me feel sorry for this dog. She got a dog grooming kit off of amazon, and tried her best. That poor dog lost half its body weight in fur and looks like a completely different dog.

Pet Update.

We went to the same Humane Society that I went to almost twenty years ago when I got my little kitten Predaking. They were having a sale on Cats($25 out the door) and we wanted to get one to try to let the puppy have a friend. We ended up picking up a cute little girl cat called Macie!

My kids love her, but we haven't introduced her to the other pets yet.

So two months in, and little Macy Gray has fully been integrated into the household. After a few weeks, the cats really started to get along. She plays with the dog a little but the dog loves to chase her.

Sadly, our little Sylvie Petals was acting weird and drooling. She didn't want to be brushed or eat this weekend, so we took her to the vet today. She was running a fever so we got her some antibiotics and she started eating again.

That panting. Poor boy was so torn between "I can't fix this. I need help." and "I don't want to leave."

This is why we live with dogs. Being able to seek help outside their immediate family unit is a special thing. They are fundamentally compatible with civilization.
