This feels like a big one.
Episode 13
The Micronauts quiz Biotron on his new skill. He seems to know random words but sentences not so much. Meanwhile Karza throws a Kylo Ren fit over losing Alpha Tron. Then he decides he needs to get a giant on his side. (No idea what he did to the Junkyard owner.)
Then...Flashback That Will Be The Whole Darn Episode:
Dr Karza presenting a world changing fuel cell to the High Council. It combines Micronium and something called Prototell to form a new super energy Microtell. They name him head of the Science Guild and offer him the title of Baron. He's super happy and hugs the Acroyear rep (who's an a$$hole). Then Henrick Pelham calls. They've got an SoS rescue mission. Karza happily accepts his new cape of office and runs off.
The Micronaut team Space Bridges in to their mission. It's Pel's Dad, Karza, Torro (the other Time Traveller from the ep where Xant and Quin go home), a female space glider and another lady with a real Evil-Lyn vibe. The place they appear has been destroyed. There are only 3 survivors, white-skinned and angular who report they were attacked by Pirates from Lobros. Henrick wants to take them to safety but Karza is concerned that helping them could put the Lobros target on Microsia. He feels helping "Aliens" is not worth endangering Microsia. Henrick overrules his friend.
Karza gets really pissy and leaves as soon as they get home. At his lab we see he's already almost finished Alpha Tron. He tries to charge up his armor with his new fuel cell and it malfunctions, overloading and blasting him back. In the aftermath it's sparking and glowing angry red instead of the cool blue Micronium usually is. Also Red Energy Tentacles are whipping from Karza's palm.
Henrick's team (sans Karza), and (sane) Quin attend a morning meeting. Their boss seems to be the same guy in charge of Phen's Space Glider Academy from that other episode.
In his lab Karza creates more Red Micronium and starts to enfuse his armor with it before Henrick arrives to check if he's ok. Karza is angry and "not himself" according to Henrick. He delivers a gift from the Aliens they saved. A (the) Ceremonial mask. This seems to calm Karza who likes the mask and says thank you when Henrick leaves.
Unfortunately he wakes a short time later to find the Aliens they rescued ransacking his lab looking for weapons to get revenge on the Lobros. They grab the fuel cell and Karza lashes out with his energy tentacles, taking over another mind for the first time. One of them throws a vial of acid in his face to complete the Two Face/Keldor Supervillian Origin. The refugees flee and Karza channels Jack Napier and decides to don the mask over his ruined face.
Karza goes to a stunned Henrick and refuses medical help. His Xenophobia and Paranoia is now off the charts. He sees all outsiders and aliens as coming for his power source and plans to demand the high council banish them all or he will make them see his way.
They of course dismiss him. Pel is concerned but Karza tells him to go to the morning meeting, call everyone in for it, and they'll discuss it then. But in the morning he doesn't show. Quintillus however has foreseen that if Torro goes on the next mission he will die, so she offers to take his place with Henrick's team. The team ditches the meeting to go after Karza without explaining to anyone (something that in retrospect was a bad idea). Karza calls to thank Henrick for keeping all the Micronauts tied up in the meeting while he sets bombs to blow up the Historical Building and frame the refugees, so that all Microsia will see Aliens and Outsiders should never be trusted.
The evil-ish lady on the team apparently named Sinnesy says they should get backup first, but Henrick says there's no time. As the rest of the team rushes off she hangs back and gets a really sly evil I'm Gonna Betray You Now look on her face before going the other way.
Quintillus arrives just as Karza and his new robots activate the bombs. They fight while the others start to take out the bombs. Gammatron accidentally detonates one. Karza almost takes out Henrick when their Space Glider lady shows up in the Space Cruiser and blasts the Bad Guy. They load the bombs and Karza's Microtell generator in the ship and Quintillus opens a space bridge for them to dump it all far away. She will bring them back when they have done so.
Just as they go the High Council forces arrive. They call the Micronauts traitors a for helping Karza (ignoring Quins explanations) and sentence them to "conviction without trial" (ouch topical) leading Quin away to life in prison.
Back in the Present Day Karza arrives at Arliss Dunne's house to form an alliance with him.
Developments:
1) Karza's Backstory
2) The Lobros are Crustacion Aliens from the original Micronauts toyline.
3) The High Council are more then jerks they come off as outright evil.
4) Xenophobia and Sentencing people to life in prison specifically without due process trial. Mmmm. This show was very sadly ahead of its time.
5) It is cute that Gammatron originally couldn't talk like Beta Tron and Karza thought that was annoying so purposefully gave it a voice. Ooops.
-ZacWilliam, that was a lot of story squeezed into one long flashback.
