Everything is fuzzy from back then for me. I definitely remember getting the Devastator giftset. I think that was my big Christmas gift for '85. And I know I had two Fireflights, which I recall being from having him on his own, and then later getting the giftset. Beyond that, I remember getting Blast Off while out with my grandma. But I have absolutely no memory of where the rest of them came from.

My only G1 combiner . . . I think I've shared this before, but I don't remember if I put up a pic of Devastator or just my original Hook.

no, it's your imagination, they're all green.jpg

I bought Hook one summer - my big sister walked down to the store with me, and I spent my own money.

My mom bought the rest and had different people give them to me at Christmas, so I kept unwrapping more Constructicons. One of her best presents ever, really.

I played with them - a lot - Hook lost his shoulder connector to Bonecrusher, Scrapper broke, and there's a broken tab going into either Scrapper or Mixmaster. Oh - and - Bonecrusher's arms fall down part of the time. It's like he's trying to wave or something.

I bought the three yellow replacements through CR Toys during college, so Hook hangs out on one shelf and Devastator is across the room. They're all fragile, but unless they just crumble into nothing, I probably won't ever get rid of them.

Things kind of narrowed as our family grew and little luxuries now had to be spread out among multiple children, and by that point the combiner years of G1 were more or less done anyway, so I never really got any of them as a kid.

But then on one occasion an aunt visited, who insisted on taking me shopping and buying me something, and what was in stores was Action Masters. And I wanted to make the most of the opportunity. So when I saw Devastator (with Scorpulator), I thought, well, that's the best value for money, right, six Transformers in one (and a bonus Scorpulator)? Let's get that.

I am just as well-meaning now, but generally less of an idiot.

Devastator was my one and only Action Master that I got from a... Dollar General, I think it was?

Got him because a) I had no Constructicons, so sure, why not get them all at once? And more importantly, b) they didn't have Grimlock or Optimus Prime, who I'd seen in the comics.

I remember returning there a few times, hoping to find more, hoping to find Grimlock, but alas. It was not to be.

It's funny, seeing as I think it was that run of Grimlock as Autobot leader that made me such a big fan of his at the time. I mean, I always liked Grimlock, except during his first run as leader, but that really lit a rocket under it.

Man, I wish we could get Action Master reissues.

What's funny is, I also really loved the new design, not realizing that they were basically supposed to be more cartoon-like designs to begin with.

It'd almost be worth all the dumb AI- (whether actually LLM or just "intelligent" human fanboys) generated "articles" retreading the tired "it has the name Transformers on it but it don't transform?!?!?!!!!" like they've never heard of Blokees or Underoos or the Optimus Prime Oral Care Station.

But seriously I'd love some reissues or reuses. One Takara exclusive thing I'll never be able to find at a decent price (and don't really have much reason to pursue other than pure wanting it at the time) is their New Year's Convoy, which had the delightful mix of packaging a reissue 1984 Op with a redecoed Action Master Op. Just some pleasant neuron activation seeing them together in the classic packaging.

Of course now what I'd prefer is straight reissues in that solid-color packaging. Alas, Hasbro seems to have their Transformers-as-figurines niche taken care of at the moment.

I wanted that so much back in the day. But getting married and moving to Canada kinda crippled my budget for anything so fancy at the time.

FROM THE SECERT FILES OF TELE-TRANN TOO!

Action Master Grimlock is the only G1 toy I had during G1 that survived, and that's being generous as I lost all the pieces to his ridable turret after taking it apart, wrapped him up like a mummy with green kite string and buried him in the back yard, and 'touching up' his details with blue and yellow paint markers because those were the only ones we had.

Then GENERATION 2 came around and I started buying toys with my own money so I started taking care of them, and the Constructicons were one of the first (along with the minibots) I bought, because they were more affordable. (I started making money, didn't say it was a lot)

That allowed me to complete my first Combiner: G2-totally-not-European-or-a-Knockoff Devastator!

Then there is my Transmetal Megatron. It's waist has not snapped. It's the right shoulder HINGE that broke a few years after i got it, with it's thin-ass plastic. I was able to carefully glue it and keep it useable. Then when I dug it out for this 2025 addition to my gallery, it broke again.

Re: all the G1 combiner toys talk - maybe I’m in the minority here, but I have absolutely no interest in revisiting any of those toys. 🤷🏻‍♀️

None of them aged well, any copies in existence at this point manage to be both feeble and bricks; and there is absolutely no play value, except reattaching pieces that fall off cus you breathed wrong or flopping around limbs in a circle with joints that are completely worn to nothing.

As for nostalgia, the only thing they remind me of is growing up in poverty, and all the crap that comes from that.🫠

So I’m here for the 85th reimagining of these guys that can actually stay together and pose worth a damn. Although I feel we are hella overdue for a Beast Wars or Armada-esque series that is a completely original reimagining with accompanying toys that aren’t just kiddified nonsense. (Looking at YOU, Cyberworld.😒)

So I thought to myself, "The Cyclospora comic was honestly a bit gross, I'm sure I can do better!"

Anyway, I was wrong. Back to looking for any pictures from the new Comic Con panel.

Moonshine Kup and "Done With This" Shockwave are so close to becoming canon versions of the characters in my head...

In my head, any and all aspects of Transformers fiction anyone is familiar with are ALL Kup's war stories. No matter how contradictory they may be (like G1 vs, Animated). Swindle just writes them down, and merchandises them in different ways on Earth. Turned quite the profit, though he's never been too sure what to do with the Go-Bots related stuff.

I like the G1 combiners look still. The new combiners are great, but it doesn't diminish the G1 combiners or the nostalgia they bring with them. Also, aside from my Onslaught, all my Combiners are still in good shape.

Transformers fiction is reserved for Classics Kup.
