It's a combination of Starscream being significantly smaller than his Armada toy and the Star Saber Minicons all being bigger than theirs. Based on the anime, it's supposed to be that long, although not nearly as bulky since it turns into a generic energy blade instead of a terrible air-traffic disaster.

I don't think I've caught it, but my stomach hasn't felt right since I spent a couple days stuck near the bathroom a few weeks ago. I wouldn't call it explosive, though. So if I did catch it, must have been a very mild case.
