I don't feel like it's really a mess-up. SEGA probably just had them prioritize one mode over the other, and it wound up being vehicle mode. Probably because Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is coming out soon, too.
I remember them being pretty rigid with Nintendo on Smash Bros. alts, too, upsetting fans with Brawl (though I think they've loosened up since).
But one thing that could change?
Shoe color.

The axe is stupid and the truck mode isn't great, but for twelve bucks, it's not a bad figure. Definitely glad I waited, though. Gave him a random gun out of my parts bin just because.
My nephew loves that one, he has the Dead Prime (which he uses the trailer for), the deluxe toy style, and Devestation. I've found him swapping the cabs around depending on what sort of scene he's working on. Very cost-effective!

I got him for $15, and I am very happy with him overall. He's a great budget Prime. He honestly looks really good in robot mode, his transformation feels like an extremely streamlined version of SS86. His Truck mode isn't perfect, but it looks pretty good when paired with a trailer. I do agree that the axe is pretty abysmal.
The toy-style G1 Prime comes with two guns if you don't have one, which could give options since I've seen it cheap, though the posts need some sanding to fit in the hands for Devestation well (or anything else for that matter). But my nephew actually preferred the folding cannon that came with the Leader-Earthrise Prime mold. Not sure if it's just because the posts fit on the first try or if it was aesthetic.

how do you make so many sets of eyes and have them all turn out so derpy? Like what even is that last one? Ugly sonic?
Maybe he just has frostbite. I hope he doesn't loose his feet, the car won't have a bumper.
The last set of eyes must be based on his original movie design...

I still prefer the look of the original SkyByte, which I never had. But this one will definitely work.

As super-tight Chopsaw's shoulder sockets were, with their awkward placement at the end of stems, I felt it would have broken on me.

This happened to a Brimstone I owned, and I half expect the same to happen to the Chopsaw I also sought out after. It's a great design, which makes this particular design/material issue more frustrating to likely encounter.
I have on more than one occasion drilled into the post on both sides carefully, put in a small bit of cut finishing nail, glued it, then added some plastic safe lube at the ball to prevent reseizing. It's a pain to get right and could mess it up, but you can't break it MORE anyway?
