Well yeah, I can't think of a single active politician in this country who I'd trust to actually fix everything Trump broke, let alone make things better than they were before. I don't honestly think a Constitutionally-limited president, even with the backing of a Congressional majority, can pull that off at this point. Considering most of the stuff he's doing, he's having to flagrantly disregard the Constitution to do in the first place.

But if the goal is to just get elected, Newsom is on the rightest track anyone in his party has been on in since Obama at least.

I don't trust Newsom, but he's better than Trump. Frankly Trump, is only able to impose tariffs because CONGRESS delegated that power to the office of the President. They can just as easily strip it away, if they weren't so scared of being primaried(and frankly, given the approval ratings that Trump is getting due to the tariffs, they shouldn't be so scared at this point)..

More accurately, he's declared "national emergencies" and is relying on the powers granted under that status to push the tariffs. But Congress can end that I believe, so ball's still in their court, just for slightly different reasons.

Yup, and those powers only exist because Congress granted them to the president over a series of several laws that were passed well before he took office.

Attempting to run on the "best economy ever" platform while inflation (regardless of source) was absolutely ******* everyone over was one of several reasons why Harris lost. It was a stupid ******* platform to hang her hat, but God forbid a Democrat say 'hey jive is fucked up and we know it'. But, look how well that went for Jimmy, right?

The worst part of that message is the sneer that tended to accompany it. That came less from Harris and more from her media allies, but people still heard it. Up to election night MSNBC was still pushing crap about how voters were just misinformed about how good the economy really is.

If you're in a grocery store looking at prices and you're concluding you can't buy as much as you used to, it's not because Russia told you that. The prices you see are what you see.

She also ran on the economy while we're in the grip of a massive spike in greedflation. So, you know, maybe the democrats just don't ******* know what they're doing.

They really don't.

And neither do the voters, or else we'd have primaried all of these idiots ages ago.

There is an effort by a subsection of the Democratic party to start primarying ineffective democrat incumbents(at least in solidly Dem areas), but we'll have to see how that goes. There's also Bernie(I know he's not 'technically' a Democrat) and AOC's Fighting Oligarchy Tour that seems to be drawing large crowds even in red areas. AOC successfully primaried her Democratic incumbent opponent back in 2018, so there IS a path to do this.

A part of the success that republicans have had is they've been moving people out who don't adhere to their current goals. yes, it's a purity test, but look at where we are. We are at the mercy of these assholes who will do whatever the Melon Felon wants.
it is time for the democrat party to solidify its message and start moving against those who aren't part of the program. We watched Biden be publicly and repeatedly sabotaged by the likes of Manchin and Sinema. Who claimed to be democrats, but were not. We need people who will get stuff done, not turn tail and throw vital parts of the party under the bus because "it worked for Trump"

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

I mean, I agree in principle: a unified message and team... but "You're either on board or over board" isn't exactly a welcoming and inclusive message. That's the major difference between the parties communities. Every person purity tested out of the republican camp can find space in the democrat party.

Unless your goal is to force the creation of large scale, viable third parties.

I'm a big believer in a diversity of ideas coming together to create a plan for the greater good. But that entails having people with a deep set of core beliefs that they will not betray. We don't have many of those people in politics. The GOP has demonstrated that every principle they have is, at best, transactional.

If viable third parties do come from that, then I'm super okay with it because we need more choice.

We literally can't have viable third parties due to the way our elections and legislative branch are structured(first past the post isn't conductive to there being a viable 3rd party). Best we can hope for is something akin to an alignment shift or for one of the major parties to dissolve and a new party to take their place.(AKA Whigs breaking up and then re-coalescing into the Republican Party)
