It's directly undermining the underpinnings of the US economic system is where it's going. So either trump himself intends to return to the gold standard, or they're all aware trump is going to destroy the US economy and desantis is jumping the gun.

Trump has talked about going back to the gold standard before. He didn't make it a campaign promise, but I won't be surprised if he tries it.
They've considered that a lot of the gold-deficient people are sheep who can easily be pointed at immigrants/minorities/LGBT/whatever other undesirables they can get Fox to lie about for a while.
That doesn't sound any different from the system we have right now.
It's exactly the same, except for the finite resource in replacement for the make believe that's currently used.
I believe Desantis will be combining this new economic measure with gender-role purification, via "new" educational videos at schools:

I’m possibly being a bit facetious here, but surely the megaprison won’t be viable for long anyway once climate change makes Florida borderline uninhabitable?
One could easily argue that it already is.
Especially in the Everglades (for humans, anyway. Other, typically rather dangerous, animals thrive in that environment).
The site is already government property but not part of the national park, so permits won't slow it down much. They'll just put up some tents and some chain link fencing and call it a day.
This is in fact one of the arguments they're making for the site. They won't need to spend much on security because the swamp itself would make it effectively inescapable. Our new state attorney general, who is leading the push for this idea, is calling it "Alligator Alcatraz".
Rhinox is still operating under the assumption that they'll meet health and safety standards, or even care about the conditions the "prisoners" will be living under.
