And I don’t see that changing, simply by nature of this line. Unless they spin out Batman (and we’ve already discussed how weak the broader DC segment is without him), we’ll likely keep getting some flavor of Batman with every new wave, if not Batman and Bat-family character.

But I’d also argue Mattel isn’t doing a bad job in keeping solid string of villains and other heroes, at least in the “mass retail” sense (remember, the first Nightwing we got is a retailer exclusive boxset). Yes, it’s Bat-heavy, but I think we all should expect that. If Hasbro could only have a single Marvel Hero SKU for kids toys, you’d be damned sure to see plenty of Spider-Man figures.

As far as female characters…again, most kids lines don’t have THAT heavy a female presence by nature. I’m sure we’ll get bigger name heroines eventually, but, it’s going to take time. I have more faith in Mattel rolling out a Premier Harley Quinn or Batgirl or Wonder Woman, than I am of seeing Hasbro actually release an ActionVerse (non-tie in) for Captain (or Ms) Marvel or Black Widow or Wasp at this stage.

ActionVerse manages to get Spider-Gwen out. If they can do it with their limited character selection, it shouldn't be that hard for Mattel in their kids line.

Statically speaking, this is incorrect. Between ActionVerse and Premier, it's AV with the sole female representation.

I was at Ross today, and of the myriad of NECA stuff they had (mostly TMNT 2 packs of Ace Duke and Wingnut), I spotted something I couldn't resist for $10:
A Batman TAS Grapnel launcher replica. For $10? You're damned skippy I picked it up!

89 might have ignited my Batman fandom...but TAS DEFINED Batman to me. And since they were running some "Tuesday Discount", I technically only paid $9.80 for it!

The Ross I was at had a replica Batman Beyond batarang. There's definitely something going on there.

The Batman 89 batarang replica

Batman Beyond Batarang replica

And the TAS Grapnel Launcher I nabbed for less than $10

They're less "Prop Replicas" and more "roleplay toys for adults". The TAS launcher even shoots a little projectile with retrieval feature.

Oooh, those are cool! The Beyond Batarang looks a little big, but still... so cool!
