And I don’t see that changing, simply by nature of this line. Unless they spin out Batman (and we’ve already discussed how weak the broader DC segment is without him), we’ll likely keep getting some flavor of Batman with every new wave, if not Batman and Bat-family character.
But I’d also argue Mattel isn’t doing a bad job in keeping solid string of villains and other heroes, at least in the “mass retail” sense (remember, the first Nightwing we got is a retailer exclusive boxset). Yes, it’s Bat-heavy, but I think we all should expect that. If Hasbro could only have a single Marvel Hero SKU for kids toys, you’d be damned sure to see plenty of Spider-Man figures.
As far as female characters…again, most kids lines don’t have THAT heavy a female presence by nature. I’m sure we’ll get bigger name heroines eventually, but, it’s going to take time. I have more faith in Mattel rolling out a Premier Harley Quinn or Batgirl or Wonder Woman, than I am of seeing Hasbro actually release an ActionVerse (non-tie in) for Captain (or Ms) Marvel or Black Widow or Wasp at this stage.
