Sony had a State of Play, and that means many of the announcements were multiplatform. Most notable was the announcement of Metal Gear Solid Collection Volume 2, featuring MGS4, Peacewalker and Ghost Babel (the GBC game). The game is currently being promoted to be available on Switch 1…but after the issues with the prior one, maybe wait for more details?
-Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition: Play through FIVE different flavors of the original 2D platformer, plus the SNES prototype along with a documentary and reimagined soundtrack. The project was handled by the masters at Digital Eclipse, so you know the quality will be on point. Hopefully, this does well enough to get a similar bundle for the fantastic sequel. Available on February 13 and I heard a $20 pricepoint (which is a solid price, compared to what Japanese companies like Toaplan and Taito are charging for their retro stuff)
-Legacy of Kain: Defiance will be coming in March from Aspyr. In addition to the original game with typical updates like new/improved textures and other QoL additions, they are including content previously cut from the game upon its original release. But there’s MORE! A brand new title in the vampire franchise is being produced, Legacy of Kain Ascendence, a 2D prequel/midquel to Soul Reaver (there’s time travel, lore gets complicated), due about the same time. Ascendence is the first new title in the franchise in 22 years, though it seems Crystal Dynamics is skewing on the side of caution when developing new content for the franchise, hence a 2D action title
-Speaking of vampires, Konami is actually putting forth a solid effort in rebuilding their tattered reputation. In addition to the aforementioned MGS news, they revealed a new Castlevania title from the developers of Dead Cells, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. Reportedly NOT a rogue-like (thank god), some of the footage points more towards a classic Metroidvania with gorgeous animation and some novel twists on the action gameplay. Set 23 years after Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse, you follow a new female protagonist in battling the forces of darkness.
Additional titles were shown, but no firm details for even Switch 2, much less Switch 1. Except for Konami’s Darwin’s Paradox!, a stealth game featuring an octopus, slated for Switch 2.
