We are at that 'adapt or die' moment. For both political parties. Once Trump dies and, let's be honest, it's going to be sooner rather than later, the GOP is going to be jive out of luck until they get their next savior. The Democrats, though, have been allowing their young talent to wither on the vine while continually feeding resources to the elders who need to read the writing on the wall and get out.

They didn't have the votes in the Senate to convict the last two times either. Didn't stop them. And back then they actually had a majority, so they were capable of accomplishing other things. Right now there's really nothing to do besides wait for Republicans' terrible bills to hit the floor and vote nay on them, and holding impeachment proceedings aren't going to stop them from doing that.

One thing that can be done (and, in fact, is currently being done in the Senate vis-a-vis the big spending bill, which I'll call the "Large Ludicrous Legislation" just to deny MAGA its preferred name) is to delay voting on things for as long as legally possible (in this case, by introducing amendments... even when they know the amendments will be voted down), and if it were somehow possible to get an impeachment vote through the House (yeah, not happening right now), that would compel the Senate to stop other business and deal with that, so there would still be SOME benefit....

Ooh, right, impeachment proceedings would pre-empt whatever else is trying to happen, all of which is going to be the Republicans' doing. It'd be like filibustering on a meta scale. Well in that case, they should be clogging the system with one impeachment hearing after another until the next election. And since the Republicans don't have a supermajority either and love firing back out of pettiness, maybe they can be baited into countering with useless impeachments of their own, contributing to the cycle.

But they don't. Not a single thing anybody has done so far has made a real difference. People are still being kidnapped in broad daylight and disappeared to who knows where. Trump and his administration continue to climb the golden staircase of stupidity while thumbing their collective noses at the courts. The Republicans, who are realistically the only ones who could stand in the way, continue to craft more and more ways to screw over everyone who's not a billionaire and shove their tongues farther and farther up Trumps tangerine rectum.

Trump is losing more court cases every day, and the more pressure citizens put on even those worthless wastes of carbon called republicans does influence their decisions. Democracy takes work, especially when under threat. Do your job: harass your representatives, join protests, work with your local community groups.
