If they can make the Onslaught saga work, I’m all for it.
Pump it into my brain!
For the nerdy:
Cyclops and Jean are wearing pre-Blue/Gold Team X-Factor uniforms, while everyone else is wearing the "neo-classic" uniforms from the same period. Wolverine is wearing his dew-rag mask, as he sported in the comics after mutating from the Adamantium removal. And hey! It's Ozymandias! Apocalypse's caretaker introduced during the Onslaught saga. And some "time displaced" Horsemen who might be other nods. The robots, to me, have a passing resemblance to AoA's Holocaust.
Watched the three episodes today. Second episode is my favorite.
We check in on all three time periods; Future, Present, and Past.
First up is Cable's origins based on the old Cyclops and Pheonix miniseries. I know Storm is Omega level, but her being able to influence solar storms seems a bit much. Episode seems to confirm that the Ashanti Mistress is Racheal Summers, something I dont remember if it was ever made this blatent in the comics. Mostly the episode is about Scott and Jean trying to be parents to Nathan.
Episode 2 gets props for changing the opening to be X-Force themed. Jubilee gains several levels in badass as she ends up tanking an enemy encampment pretty much solo. We see a lot of cameo of modern X-kids that didn't exist in 97/98, but we also see several that will go on to form Gen X, and Jubilee's new costume is her Gen X look. I am wondering if she'll be starting the team this season. We also get Emma Frost, but not sure if she's mentor material like she was in the comics. Though some of the mutants Jubs frees look to be her Cuckoos.
Epi 3, back to the Past. Magneto is trying to change En Sabah Nur to be the first X-Man and to believe in Mutant-Human relations. Charles is skeptical of this both becuase of who he knows Apocalypse to be, and becuase he fears changing the time stream too much. Main villian is Rama Tut who most know best as Kang the Conquerer. Things don't go well, as En learns of the X-men hording tech to build something and then Rama launches an attack. TBC
These episodes have solidified for me that Onslaught is coming sooner then later. They keep showing the Fatal Attraction scene in the credits, last week There was a planet that looked like Onslaught's head, this weekIt feels like they are not being subtle about it.Charles is mindlinked to Magnus as Apocalypse turns him into chunky Salsa
Theory:
In the comics, Onsluaght ended with Heroes Reborn/Return. They pretty obviously can't do that. But there is a similar idea that they CAN do, that fits with how they remix the comic stories. House of M/M-Day. I could see the conflict with Onsluaght ending with us dealing with an AU that everyone got sucked into where Mutants and Humans live harmonously, but with Mutants as the top of the food chain and all the characters seeming to live their best lives, but a few realizing that its wrong.
I just happen to see this and I’m amused that not only did the show acknowledge almost ALL of his alternate identities (Nathaniel Richards, Victor Timely, Kang), but opted to have him voiced by John de Lancie. It was actually an inspired bit of casting, IMO.I kinda expect that they'll never actuall mention "Kang" and just keep him Rama-Tut; keep things semi-ambigous so as not to get lumped into MCU narrative by every casual watcher (if they are true about wanting to keep animated stuff seperate from Live Action) but also be "if you know, you know."

But did they acknowledge that we'd seen him before in the series? It did surprise me that they not only named dropped all his alias' but had him hug off after changing into the tradtional Kang look. For him basically being a glorified cameo, they went all out on him.

There is speculation that he was originally intended to be the MCU Kang, including voicework from Jonathan Majors, to tie into Kang Dynasty. It did surprise me that they not only named dropped all his alias' but had him hug off after changing into the tradtional Kang look. It has been reported that Matthew Chauncey was brought in for “rewrites” after Beau de Mayo’s removal, so modifying the Kang role might well have been part of that. From what is known about production timetables, Marvel certainly DID have the time to go back and modify Rama Tut/Kang’s depiction and voicework before premiere.
Well until it didn't...I get the feeling that Kang showing up was meant as a clever bit of synergy more than anything else. Made perfect sense, too.
