What stupid thing did the GOP say or do this time? Episode 3!

I have my issues with the Kurtzman era of Star Trek, but it's not because it's too woke. Temu Lex Luthor is just an idiot.
Considering what William Shatner said *in 1968* when NBC executives thought that "the Kiss" would cost them Southeastern audiences, I see no reason to think that he wouldn't largely stay the current course should he somehow find himself appointed showrunner.

Plus, going into actual low orbit seems to have mellowed him somewhat....

Shatner's ego would get in the way, if he were put in charge, even if he has mellowed a bit. He's also said that Star Trek isn't political, which is a questionable take. It's always been political.

Really beginning to think Trump and his supports may have finally overplayed their hand. The Twin Cities are giving them hell and I'm all for it. I've really got to visit Minneapolis some day. The people there seem to have good head on their shoulders, plus it was where one of my favorite TV shows was first produced. Doesn't hurt that it's been trans friendly since the 70s(one of the first anti-discrimination laws protecting trans people was enacted there).

And some video, because who doesn't love watching Nazi jizzrags getting pelted with water balloons in below-freezing temperatures?

If you really want fun, you should hear that particular nazi's take on it. Claiming he was "literally lynched" and that they are out to get "all white christians".

It is fantastic that he was saved on camera by a black man who decided that enough was enough. Damn shame the nazi hug didn't take the lesson to heart.

Not only was he saved by a black man, he got in a car driven by a woman of color and her trans friend to try and escape. They though he was being harassed by ICE at first. They dumped him out a couple of blocks away because they were getting some bad vibes from him.

Because of course he is. Nazis aren't just cowards, they're grifters too.

This is an individual who will never learn the lesson. He is an unrepentant racist who enjoys using violence. I love the hypocrisy here as well as the video that totally discounts his twisted version of events. I am absolutely certain that he will try again and, most likely, will get a worse result. Good Samaritans came to his rescue this time. Only to be met with scorn and dismissal. No one is going to rescue him again.

They shouldn't have rescued him the first time. Thou shalt not suffer a fascist to live.

I disagree on this one. He was very much the sacrificial lamb sent out to be violently dealt with on television. Look at the attempts at creating a narrative that is falling apart due to the video.
Now, if he goes back, there has to be answers as to why if he was already so "grievously" wounded. The second time is totally on him, less the protestors.

We knew this was coming, but now the clock is running. From Privacy International:

"Yesterday the Trump Administration announced a proposed change in policy for travellers to the U.S. It applies to the powers of data collection by the Customs and Border Police (CBP)."

"If the proposed changes are adopted after the 60-day consultation, then millions of travellers to the U.S. will be forced to use a U.S. government mobile phone app, submit their social media from the last five years and email addresses used in the last ten years, including of family members. They’re also proposing the collection of DNA."

PI linked to and summarized a Federal Register entry describing the proposed requirements:

-All visitors must submit ‘their social media from the last 5 years’

-ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) applications will include ‘high value data fields’, ‘when feasible’
‘telephone numbers used in the last five years’
-‘email addresses used in the last ten years’
-‘family number telephone numbers (sic) used in the last five years’
-biometrics – face, fingerprint, DNA, and iris
-business telephone numbers used in the last five years
-business email addresses used in the last ten years.

The Federal Register entry says comments are encouraged and
must be submitted (no later than February 9, 2026) to be assured of consideration.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

No one outside the states is worried about it, because we're already not going to the states. Good luck with the world cup and olympics though: if they weren't going to be ghost towns before, they will be now.

And we all know the changes will adopted: it's literally why the regime brought it up. The 60 day consultation period, if run properly, will outline how it's a horrible idea, powerfully invasive, intrinsically off putting, and will massively bog down the administrative work force... and then trump will do it anyway.

Why not kill the tourism industry... I mean you've already crippled the US's trade relations, might as well cripple the economies of Florida and Hawai'i while you're at it.

Anyone with half a brain would avoid coming to the US for the foreseeable future.
Personally, I’ve already accepted that I’ll most likely never be able to visit the US again. I wouldn’t under the current circumstances for safety reasons, and the authoritarian checks on private social media accounts would, err, be an issue. However, I don’t trust that these ‘checks’ will ever be rolled back by any future government of either stripe.
