Or offer to let them quit and join the Danish army. Surely some of them would say yes.

NATO wouldn't dissolve completely. It would just carry on without the US. If anything were to trigger WWIII, the invasion of Greenland would likely be it. The other NATO members and the EU can't just sit back and let it happen at that point and EU nations, if they band together, can make things VERY rough for the US even if the US does retain the upper hand. If the US loses Western Europe as an ally, you better bet our enemies will use that to their advantage...

I'm pretty sure either NATO or the EU has to go to war if one of their member states is invaded by a foreign power. That's why they can't let Ukraine in until the war is over. So let me say in advance, I personally surrender and permit them to claim my house and yard as their first colony.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

I'm not sure how many EU nations aren't in nato, but I know some ARE, and they are largely incentivized to protect each other... so, most of the EU would go to war one way or another if article five is triggered.

And even if the EU wasn't a thing: I'm also pretty sure they would move to protect each other from a large scale opportunistic dictator. No one wants the conditions to create another world war 1... but they also don't want the conditions for another world war 2.

And yes, even without the US (or, against the US.) nato is a large and formidable opponent. Plus, no one wants to go to war against canada. They know what we do to the enemy.

Ireland, Austria, Malta. That’s it. (Even some of the Austrian political parties are moving towards supporting NATO membership.)

The EU has its own self-defence clause for member states…
