He is running in the by-election, framing it as "the people versus the establishment" with him naturally representing the people.

The other parties have refused to play this game by announcing they're not putting up candidates.

Clacton now has the opportunity to do something hilarious by electing whoever the Monster Raving Looney Party candidate is.
These days, the hero we deserve is someone else.

Unfortunately, it seems Clacton is rather full of his supporters:

Yeah, Clacton (and most of Essex) is Florida-ish in terms of comparable demographics. Even a single ‘official’ anti-Farage candidate would likely struggle to get elected, unfortunately. But by pulling out of the by-election, the main 3 parties are likely doing the right thing by showing up Fashy Frogface as being a petulant little tosser.

Cometh the moment, cometh the Bin!

I love this for Nigel. He is running against a trash can and a fox. He knows how stupid this all looks, how he looks and he can't do a damn thing about it. God what an ass. Couldn't be happier for him.

And oddsmakers are slashing odds on Count Bin's chances of winning. Someone is scared he actually has a shot.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Yeah, the politicians. If binface wins, and not only does a good job (and it wouldn't be hard to do better than the rest of them.) but stays in characters while doing it, it'll not only drive the plebians out in droves to actually join the political class, but it'll prove that better is immediately available and an option, it'll turn local british politics into an absolute circus for a good while.

And frankly, I am all for it.

From the outside it looks like there's a creeping realization that it's time to take him seriously. This is the first time I've seen him interviewed by a host that doesn't play along with the bit, and he was ready for it.

He’s apparently got a BA in Classics from Oxford, so much be an intelligent bloke. And answering questions straightforwardly, and turning on hostile questions from the media, that’s pretty novel.

TBH I don’t find his schtick particularly funny, but what is hilarious is the extent the rightwing media and Reform are apoplectic over the mere thought their icon possibly being defeated by a novelty candidate. One right-wing commentator even guffed out the opinion the other day that it could be an event leading put to a civil war or something.

As I recall, the last English civil war differentiated the two sides by their haircuts. I'm now picturing an entire rebel faction distinguishing themselves by wearing upturned trashcans on their heads.

I mean, as far as politicans go, the Count does have some positions I believe most people can rally behind. Meanwhile what does Nigel have? Aside from a face made for punching?

I had my doubts until I saw pictures of that hand dryer in the Crown and Treaty Pub. The Count is absolutely right. That is a travesty. It may not be the most important issue in the UK right now, but little stupid things like that add up until you stop noticing the specifics and just live with a vague feeling that something isn't right.

Maybe big issues that require 20-year plans that never actually get done aren't the only things government needs to focus on. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to focus on little daily doses of sanity for a while.

How 'bout also stripping them of the right to vote until they re-graduate.

Having your right to vote being transactional on agreeing with the Party in power would seem to be…a poor system ripe for abuse.

Like making it so mass media can only report “facts” and not “misinformation”.
