They're really doing a good job of making me Hate Bumblebitch here.
His Energon Surge corruption is reminding me of Optimus Primal in "Gorilla Warfare", or various depictions of Hate Plague victims, only in Bee's case he's giving into the hate since he's already ticked off and looking to place blame elsewhere.

Still, a jerk is a jerk.

Here we have Models of Modern Major-Generals:

Beyond deco changes, Prime gets a new head, sadly lacking an eyepatch or even a soul patch, an axe instead of a cutlass, and 2 fewer energon thingies to bung into a storage bin in the future. I think Optimus wears the pirate look rather well:

I think maybe Prime traded his Matrix of Leadership for a Matrix of Piracy? (Also, do you think someone could get Peter Cullen to say "Hey you guys!" in his Optimus voice?)

And then there is Mirage Riptide. Pretty much a new head, different plastic colors, and change of paint apps from Elita-1, plus a bit of glow in the dark paint to do the energon surge thing.

At $27 USD, it's maybe not quite at impulse buy price, but I do like Prime as a pirate ship as something kind of unique (though he's the 3rd pirate ship transforming robot I've bought this year. Still, it's a unique look on Prime), and a Mirage that's clearly meant to be Riptide is a bonus. If the set is widely available and goes to clearance, I'll likely buy a second and paint Mirage into a more Riptide-accurate color scheme.

I wanted to say I see potential for a High Tide retool, but the lack of articulation or paint in this line means it wouldn't be much of an upgrade.

I've toyed with getting the pack and repurposing this Op as that. The colors are at least fudgeable. But I'd want a new head for it, and that doesn't look particularly feasible.

Found the Rip "Mirage" Tide/Goonies Prime set at a Walmart in Illinois. Also saw Soundwave at 2 different WMs. Now just looking for Ratchet and drill Megatron.
I saw the set listed on Walmart‘s site. All signs seem to be pointing as a retailer exclusive deal. Probably not a bad one either, given the increase on the basic CyberChangers price point. Still amused Hasbro only retooled the head, but left the Jolly Roger (which I couldn’t even tell was there on Scourge) untouched.
So something interesting I found, apparently Wheeljack's scan of Bumblebee has a Waspinator head on it:

I was going to chalk it up to “it’s just the battlemask” but the toy’s version doesn’t match (but still looks awesome and I want a “traditional” toy with that design!). If anything, it looks like the front of the “drill wasp” that comes with the figure. Does the drill wasp attach to the figure in any way to replicate that?
Because I’m disinclined to say that this was some preproduction remnant that slipped through given the time frames we’ve been given for this series. The toys would be too far along for this sort of “error” to actually make it into the episode.

You know, it ALMOST feels like they're planning on giving Bumblebee a white recolor and turning him into Bug Bite, given his transformation so far.

...I don't know how likely that actually is, because I feel like we would've seen a toy of that already, if it was going to happen. But, it feels like something like that could happen.

Too good. Making Bumblebee a villain could have been funny, but I'm past 'love to hate' here. I'm wishing Galvatron ripped him in half or something.
Meanwhile, Animated Sentinel would be like, "Finally! An Autobot with some sense! I LOVE this guy!"

The head raises and lowers as part of the transformation. Based on the seam, I would guess the front half of the head could be separated and replaced, but there's no screw visible on the back with the head fully raised, so getting it replaced would likely involve completely disassembling the torso. Probably doable, but nothing like the usual head swap. Might be a good idea if the set goes to clearance though; a person could afford to experiment then.
EDIT: if a person did disassemble the torso, it looks like the Jolly Roger piece is probably removable as well. Might be cool to put a more fitting piece in there at the same time as changing the head out...

It's interesting because you could read this as Waspinator secretly replacing Bumblebee, which would explain his bitchmode attitude. And it does have some precedent in the fiction.

But the show seems to really be leaning into this being some kind of corruption of Bumblebee himself so I donno what this is.

Maybe the corruption is slowly changing Bumblebee INTO Waspinator? That could be an cool twist on their dynamic.

Whatever it is, I hope it happens soon, because this is tiresome as hell. Two episodes of him basically being more of the same from the last THREE. At least we do get it expressed in an interesting way this time, messing up their gameplay (better done in the first ep than the second). And Soundwave is finally here to maybe add something new to the proceedings. Time to stop treading water and actually move these belabored plot points forward.

So, I was at Walmart last night, and decided to investigate this, and sure enough, the drone head is designed to connect over Bee's face, in addition to regular and battle mask versions. There's definitely an intent to do...something here. Just not sure what.

Maybe Bee's anger in the show will lead to either his head being mutated into this bug form, or will lead to the reveal that this bug has secretly been warping his mind by feeding on his anger and making it worse.
