Ugh. Hundred buck Commanders are here...older ones are 89.99 but Long Haul/Hook at BBTS is 99.99 so I assume Onslaught will be too. Probably not news but I was hoping it wouldn't actually hit this point.

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

No, but between inflation and greed: pricing for toys (in general.) has been climbing steeply for years. Deluxes were 19.99 in when I was in college (20 years ago... jesus.) and at now 50 bucks a pop basically. It was slower when we had zellers and TRU as real competitors to american greed: but with walmart being the only real, large scale department store...

This is how americans keep getting low prices on everything: by screwing over everyone else in the world.

I was surprised to see a Toys R Us float in the Macy's Parade. I didn't even know we had any other than the little ones IN Macy's.

I think it's primarily an online store (in the US.) now, with the intent to grow to open physical locations again.

That was the plan I heard anyway: it's been a while. And the canadian division is languishing without american buying power. I was recently in the one I've shopped at the whole of my life, and they had taken everything off the clearance rack, returned them to full price and put them back on the proper shelves. Thankfully, I got my buzzsaw at the discounted price.

The gigantic mall that BotCon 2023 was held in has a two-story Toys R Us.

Was that American Dream in New Jersey?
Bingo. Gigantic mall w/ a two-story Toys R Us, an indoor roller coaster theme park, an indoor waterpark, an indoor miniature golf course, an indoor ice hockey rink, an indoor ski slope, and more.

Saturday night, a select few congoers got to either go to the roller coaster theme park with Scott McNeil and Venus Terzo, or play mini golf with Garry Chalk and Susan Blu (I didn't get to go to either, but I would have picked golfing with Garry and Sue since roller coasters don't agree with my equilibrium).

Alright losers, let’s talk about toys, ‘Kay? :p

nune found listings in Walmart’s systems about next spring’s capsule line:
Two Deluxe listings (”Cybertronic” and ”Cybertread”) and listings for a ”Dark Energon Megatron” and “Energon Optimus Prime” with no size classes specified. I‘m saying one will be a Voyager, the other a leader.

I know the inclination is to say “2004 Energon homages”…but I’m leaning towards some kind of “translucent” Energon feature. We’ve seen some nifty initiatives in prior capsules like the Speedia Collection and Toxitron Collection, so I’m rather curious what Hasbro might pull out here. Though, I kind of suspect “Dark Energon Megatron” might be another take on the Siege/ER mold. Though, something derived from Tarn might be interesting. Who knows with Optimus, might even be a multipack anchored by a Voyager Optimus with extras. I was actually a fan of the WFC Trilogy pack that had Voyager ER Prime with a pair of translucent Battlemasters, so I think it might be nifty to see some of the other Battlemasters dusted off and given the same treatment.

The above is me hearing Energon ___ mentioned.

I have no idea what this is going to be, but then we don't know the capsule theme yet, do we? Of course I'd rather actual Energon stuff, but the need for molds and the timing... Just doesn't really work, I guess.

Make this Energon stuff an excuse to give us a redeco/retool batch with... Maybe clear Energon weapons. More G2/Euro G1, basically Toxitron themed but call it Energon radiation or something.

I don't know, there's not much to do with just those descriptors. But I do know I do not want yet another Siege-mold-based Megs; I'm still trying to pawn off the Fractured Friendship one.

The funny thing is…Hasbro has done so many different flexes and budget tricks, actually determining WHAT these might be is nigh impossible. After all, they managed to find budget to give us ALL NEW Override and Cosmos in the Velocitron set. “Leader packs” have been figure multipacks like Thundertron or the WFCT Kingdom pack. Hell, the recent Sideways is a new mold far as I can tell. That’s on top of the “built in” alternatives Hasbro has been doing with their tooling for the past decade plus.

It’s actually kind of refreshingly exciting that it’s not OBVIOUS what we’ll probably end up getting.

Twice, now:

This is boxart he did for a Hasbro China giftset of the AOTP Aerialbots exclusive to Taobao. Not only does it have the traditional "purse-snatching" pose but now with an energy cannon inside Superion's palm in a seeming attempt to justify the pose (but which the actual toy does not have inside its fist), but the proportions are just as wonky as ever, his arms consist of two Slingshots, and his legs have two Air Raids.
