“Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action.”

I wonder if they sent him the toys to use as reference before Skydive and Fireflight were out, so they sent an extra Slingshot and Air Raid to fill it out.

He was like "I'm still upset that you killed Sideswipe in the '80s movie, but yeah, I'll do this for you."

Given his history, it would not surprise me at all if this "art" wasn't just Ai-generated in his style.
Should be easy enough to tell. Just look for unnatural proportions........wait.......

Well, maybe awkwardly drawn hands.........er......

How about a commonly reused pose that an AI could easily copy.........uh......

Excessive greebly detail that makes no sense.........dammit......

Uh......jive.

And Shockwave was an AI the whole...ok, this just falls apart, doesn't it...?

Great find on the Superion components! I hope NEXT Black Friday I might be able to get those Combaticons I want but didn't preorder.

Forgot to respond to these back when the Onyx Prime art was first seen:

Wonder who actually did the art.
Turns out the Onyx Prime art was shamelessly copied from this.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

and chhecking the QRTs of his post on twitter, pat lee has also resorted to doing 'art tutorial videos' on youtube where he just hugging copies genAI slop 'art'

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

edit - okay i just double checked it's not art tutorials but it's 'how i draw videos' where he is literally just copying genAI slop 'art' WHICH IS EVEN hugging WORSE

at this point i don't think pat lee has ever actually drawn anything himself his whole life

He must have at SOME point...the internet wasn't always available, and AI cheating is a more recent development.

This is why when I make stuff I just pose some toys and hope for the best, because unlike some artists, I am consciously aware of the fact that I suck at it. I just do it anyway because even though I know, I don't actually CARE...saves a lot of trouble trying to fake anything.

I'm sure he did at some point before getting big enough to outsource it to other artists. It's just hilariously on-brand for two decades to have passed and still have this dillhole resorting to the laziest way to do what he does and passing it off as work deserving of any attention. And tracing AI slop is a breathtakingly apt way to modernize what he's always done: leeching off an unpaid collaborator and using that to obfuscate his limited ability.

I should be mad because of the whole people not getting paid thing, but it's still darkly funny to see this guy come back out of nowhere and he's still doing the purse snatching pose.

It's what he knows best.

It's also what he knows how to draw best.

It is definitely the same pose, and for some reason he changed the spear to a Bow to match it. To play devil's advocate, there are only so many ways to draw a winged Centuar like being, and maybe the client wanted it like the card art?

That being said, Pat Lee should not return to Transformers until the people he and his family screwed over are paid back in full.

I admit I didn't get some of the references or controversies going on, so I looked him up on TFWiki.

Me: "I'm confused."
My Brain: "Which part of the article?"
Me: "The entire thing."
My Brain: "Oh, that part...uh...Yeah, that's a stumper..."

Seriously, if someone did half of this and was dumb enough to leave this level of documentation, how did they get ANY sort of art deal of any kind? I'd be scared to do business with them at all. Maybe doing art for the China exclusive side of the franchise in a country well known for IP Theft kept things on theme?

The Onyx Prime toy's spear can be combined with the beast mode tail to form a bow.

Two things on that.
One, as I said, you don't need to configure the toy's weapons into a bow. So while perhaps there are only so many ways to draw a centaur with a bow, no one forced Pat Lee to use that configuration of the weapons. He could have drawn Onyx using the spear as a spear. Of course that would mean he wouldn't get to copy someone else's artwork so this was obviously an unworkable option.

Secondly, maybe the client did want this pose. Maybe they showed Pat Lee that image and said "draw Onyx like that." That's a very real possibility.
The problem is that Pat Lee does not get the benefit of the doubt after all the crap he's pulled.

Cool! I haven't got the toy yet, so I am not familiar with it.

There was an option for that too:

Though it doesn't look as cool with a spear, but maybe its because it looks like a smaller bot here.

Totally agree with you here.
