How do we still know nothing about Nexus? What happened to the headless leaks?
We do know one thing about Nexus for sure: Despite how much more logically sound it would have been for him to be either a Leader or a Commander in order to retain some form of legitimate Combiner-ness for him, he is instead merely a Voyager.

This is my theory, except I'm hoping the limbs are MRR-like in that they have rudimentary robot modes. And, uh, no Automorph, although budget constraints will likely take care of that.

A simplified combiner in a Voyager priced box appeals way more to me than a full size Bruticus/Superion retool would. Even if the limbs don't have robot modes, that's a lot of fun for the price.

I'm also hoping for some compatibility with Amalgamous Prime, but that may be too much to hope for.

Best case scenario, IMO, is that the retail Voyager is the simplified combiner many people above are expecting/hoping for. But then, Hasbro does a Generations Selects box set, or possibly even capsule line, of Aerialbot/Combaticon redecos. That way, folks who want him/them closer in size to the rest, or just can't afford a whole 'nother combiner, can be happy with the Voyager. And those of us who want a "true" combiner (and/or prioritize similarity to the club version) can have that.

This is, sadly, where 'Core Class' could have done well, as those sizes of limbs/body parts with Dinoking level accessories would have made a really good Combiner Prime provided someone was ok with either an extra 'member' or a Core Class trailer of sorts, all sold as a multipack, then later recycled piecemeal for their respective G1ish combiners.

Core is dead as a pricepoint. There is no reason they can't shuffle Core sized bots into multipacks and accessory sets.
Exactly. They're still releasing Core sized bots, like Ramhorn and Ratbat with the new SS '86 Perceptor. No reason Nexus' limbs can't be Core class if they can make the budget work.

I was thinking more of the way Dinoking was with decent alt-modes and robot modes in small formats. They were the Dinobots first to offset costs, I understand that, which is why I figure Core Class combiners like the old variations on the Micromaster Airielbots, Protectobots, Constructicons, etc, would also repurpose well into something like the Age of the Primes characters, and have recycling potential as G1-ish. Biggest problem would be the core body, since it would have to either be bigger or two bots. Like a down-scaled version of my idea for a more Botcon styled set for him with a modified Onslaight core, and 'as close as we can get' Deluxe/Mega limbs, but then they said that the Voyager price point was the goal, which means my idea would not fit.

Walmart's online listing for the 2 pack bundles for Black Friday. Most sold out instantly (or were never available), but it should give you a good idea of what you might find in stores. Note that Walmart's actually selling the bundles for $15 (!).

Edit: In the last few minutes, I've seen several sets go in and out of stock, so who knows what's going on online.

Well, I'm 100% certain no one was done as "Core" first and as Micromaster later (because the size wasn't named Core until after the last Micromasters were made), and 99% certain that the only ones who were done as Legends first and as Micromaster later were cassette characters sized for compatibilty with corresponding Soundwave and Blaster figures.
[through gritted teeth] I would be delighted to know what your point is.
