Woo Machine Wars Starscream!!

I don't know if I want to go down that modernized Machine Wars rabbit hole, as I don't really have space for it. Especially after I have got the modernized Armada and Beast Wars figures to go with my modernized G1 obsession.

Aw c'mon, it's only 12 figures tops...

(Personally, I'd probably only buy modern versions of half or less... sorry, even nostalgia can't make me want pea-soup green head race car Prowl.

I keep telling myself that Leaders are too expensive now for recolors, and I already have Dreadwing, but damn that Starscream is tempting.

Yeah I'm glad I held off, though it's been a long time waiting. I'll be in trouble if they ever do G1 Skyquake though, or King Atlas...

Double Dealer remold as Soundwave. Could probably get away with Earthrise Mirage repaints for Mirage and Prowl. I really want them to do a new mold of Sandstorm so we can also get a new Rotorstorm.

Doubledealer is also cassette compatible. So if they wanted to cook up some original decos for MW cassettes... I wouldn't say "no."

Reportedly, there's a new Mirage coming next year. With all the other Machine Wars guys already "on tap", they might just reuse the new tooling. Which I'd be fine with, especially if they got squirrelly and made a combo Machine Wars/Energon Prowl figure.

I'm, frankly, shocked they haven't already done so. I was CERTAIN the Legacy Leader listing was going to be for this.


I'm satisfied with Machine Wars Starscream. I like the increased dimensions and stylings on the head, though I still wish he had gotten some different weapons, or at least retooled shoulders to help change the profile in jet mode a bit more. But I'm happy enough given the relative obscurity of Machine Wars.

The weapons are the weakest part but I'm ok with them for three reasons.
The first is that MW Starscream didn't come with any handheld weapons. He didn't have the gun that came with Skyquake originally. So them giving him something is nice.
The second is, I appreciate what they've done with the paint. By painting the triple barrel of the Skyquake gun green, they've mimicked the shape of the original MW Starscream's green missiles stacked on top of each other. It's a neat attention to detail to get the most out of the moulds they had to work with.
Finally, it's MW Starscream. Beggars can't be choosers and I'm just happy this thing exists.

The only downside here is that KB Toys is dead. Alas

I will be highly annoyd if they do that and the new Mirage has his g1 alt mode, becuase the current Mirage mold is the right car for Machine Wars.

I want Starscream in principle but in practice, that mold is kind of a mess, costs are up and shelf space is at a premium. The new head is just a faceplate which is a disappointment since I always thought the Dreadwing Bros. had such a cluttered forehead area that it looks weird. Maybe on a sale.

I really ought to get started on painting Brown and Browner. I really don't want to be reminded of Shockwave's furry phase.

My veins. Hook them up to that Starscream. It won't be the chunkiest thing in them, but it will feel better. NOW.

... on one arm. Make a King Atlas and hook my other arm up to that.

They already did. Let the original stay special without further diluting his good name.

Or we could make use of that good name because it's a "good name". To my mind, calling a Wreckers combiner "Wreckage" is a bit too on the nose and flat, like calling a Protectobot combiner Protector (that's even also case of a synonym-based name working really well). "Ruination" is a great name overall, and conceptually it also calls to mind a broader scale of destruction than "wreckage", so that works great.

It's 2026. Even 20 years ago the "stop calling him Prowl there's only one Prowl" argument had gotten old.

UW Baldigus was neat, but 2020s Hasbro and Takara can do better.
