If that ain't enough to make the fighters nope out, nothing will.
If you want to understand Trumpers, you have to view them not as an ideology, or even a political movement, but rather, as a street gang.
They pretend to care about ideas, but the only thing they really care about is group loyalty, just like a street gang. They have a particular appeal to disaffected young men, like a street gang. They are lawless, like a street gang. Members can demonstrate their allegiance by hating and attacking outsiders, like a street gang.
At the end of the day, you cannot argue someone out of being a Trumper, because none of the reasons he gives for being a Trumper are real. The real reason is simply that he feels valued by the gang, and he does not feel valued outside of it.
Maybe he's a racist, maybe he's a sexist, maybe he's poorly educated, maybe he's an obnoxious asshole, maybe he's just a failure in life: whatever the reason, he knows society looks askew at him, but the street gang doesn't. The street gang values his presence and gives him a new identity.
