wonko the sane?

It is if you're taking bribes from the people who would develop those resources and give them an environment where they don't need to pay taxes to a social democracy, or worry about the health and safety of the local population.

I don't even believe this is Trump's idea. Someone planted the idea of annexing Greenland into his head specifically because it's the dumbest thing they could think of that would also get all of Europe to oppose him militarily and/or lead to mass desertion or even a coup by his own military.

Which, without knowing more about this person's intentions or plans, so far strikes me as a morally neutral action.
His name is Steven Miller. We know his intentions.

Trump is a lame duck and will lose the mid terms. Enough republicans might join the democrats in the subsequent impeachment push to actually remove him. Blue states across the country are actively gerrymandering the other way to undermine republican efforts to hug with the vote. There's an entire rising generation of democrat representatives who aren't owned and operated by slush funds and special interest groups.

But it's still going to get a lot worse before it can get better. So I guess you're going cold turkey.

Why bother to invade another country to set up a Galt's Gulch there when Trump is already on track to make the US into one?

Cause the US will eventually swing back the other way: starting from scratch they can rig the game right from the start.

I don't know, shoving all the MAGAT's and Neo-Nazi's on a frozen island in the middle of the ocean is starting to sound appealing.

Greenland isn't "scratch." It's not some uninhabited desert island. It's a territory of a sovereign first-world country who will start World War III over an attempt to seize it. Is that really easier than dissolving the US government and replacing it with an unelected body that answers only to the extremely powerful corporations that are already living there?

I'm not saying it is: I'm saying I understand why they think it is. There's no more unclaimed land on the planet: but greenland looks enough like it those fuckwits think they can work it out.

Let's be real: 57 thousand wouldn't be the worst humanitarian crisis america has ever created. To people whom are so marinated in unearned billions, malignant narcissism and psychopathy: they aren't people, it's just a number. Throw enough money at it and it solves itself.

It's also why they don't understand why people are willing and ready to fight for it.

Some choice bits from Trump's speech at the economic forum at Davos:

Trump threatened Canada: "They should be grateful also, but they’re not. I watched your prime minister yesterday. He wasn’t so grateful. But they should be grateful to us. Canada lives because of the U.S. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements."

Talking about NATO and mistaking Iceland for Greenland (he did repeatedly): "They're not there for us on Iceland, that I can tell you. Our stock market took the first dip yesterday because of Iceland. So Iceland has already cost us a lot of money."

Trump equated the U.S. with the Nazis: "No nation is in any position to be able to secure Greenland other than the US. We're a great power. Much greater than people even understand. I think they found that out 2 weeks ago in Venezuela. We saw this in World War 2 when Denmark fell to Germany after just 6 hours of fighting."
Also Trump decided to levy a 39% tariff on Swiss exports because Helene Budliger Artieda, director of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, (he couldn't remember her name or title in the speech) “just rubbed me the wrong way.”

Whole thing is here if you think you can avoid any SAN damage from it:

I wonder what branch of the executive branch handles hosting all the .gov domains. I wonder how long before they're told to shut down any site that publishes anything critical of Trump.

The GSA handles the websites though the USDS(aka DOGE) aids them in maintaining the infrastructure. Considering the amount of damage Musk and his flunkies did to the USDS, my guess is that the lower-profile websites just got missed.

FB friend:
Trump knows that whenever he announces new tariffs, the stock market plunges. Whenever he calls them off, the stock market recovers.

If you think he and his slimy rich friends are not using this mechanism to make a killing on stock market insider trading, you're too naive to be living in this timeline.
WTF, media: why are you reporting that Trump says he has "a framework of a future deal" on Greenland, as if that's a real thing?

Remember when he said he had "concepts of a plan" for health-care? "Framework of a future deal" sounds exactly like that: a big steaming pile of bullshit.
It is VERY charitable to assume that "weakness" is what's making Republicans go along with Trump's behaviour of threatening war on NATO.

Don't assume it's just weakness. I've seen enough of what Trumpers are posting online to know that many of them have absolutely no problem with the idea, and are even looking forward to turning the power of the US military on its erstwhile allies.

In their minds, NATO was never an alliance: it was a collection of American vassal states which are supposed to obey America's orders, and they need to be put in their place if they start getting uppity.

Starmer’s publicly criticised Trump and shifted from his usual ‘diplomatic’ tone. We’re through the looking glass now, people!

Admittedly, I've also been making money doing this. I don't have inside information but Trump loves to announce deals before they're actually reached.
