I can't believe that.

Even if I granted that many actors DID see the role as toxic, there would STILL a line of British actors knocking at the door to play this iconic role.

Its what been said online, no one wants to play the character currently and the show ratings have been in the toilet the last couple of seasons, so why would anyone want to get onboard of a show that is clearly a sinking ship and could well kill their career if they take it on?

I've not read anything about any actors avoiding Doctor Who and I've never heard about it being 'toxic'. The only toxicity I've encountered was via right-wing trolls and grifters online.

Not everything said online is true.

For the record this all started due to an article from The Sun. Which is about the farthest thing from a reputable source about something that you can get. They are clickbait in tabloid form.

I promise you if the BBC posted up in downtown London with a sign that said "auditions for the Doctor" you'd have a line stretching to Cornwall.

Killing their career? Ncuti Gatwa has two films currently in post production and is filming a television show right now according to Wikipedia. David Tennant has two films coming out in 2027 and multiple television roles (including a recurring character in a Star Wars series!), also according to Wikipedia. The program is not killing anyone's careers.

Seriously, did you watch this show? I've only seen three episodes with Gatwa, and I felt he was excellent as an actor and a human being. I will readily admit to issues with the writing, but not with the actors involved.

Matt Smith moved on to do roles in stuff like "The Last Dragon" too.

I can't think of any time an actor playing the Doctor has suffered because of it.

Are unsure any articles online to add any credence to this belief?

None of the modern Doctors have been suffering from playing the part. Now that’s not saying that they all have had huge success in everything. Eccleston may have fallen off mosts radar after GIJoe and Thor 2, but he’s gotten consistent work outside sci fi big budget movies. And he’s probably the one who’s dropped off the “worse”.

And that's more down to him being a prickle bastard, not anything to do with him playing the Doctor.

If some reports I'm seeing are true, then the truth of "No one wants to play the doctor" is the same as "No one wants to work anymore" - ie: They ain't hiring.

And don't forget that the BBC cannot fund the show on their own any more as people are ditching the license fee because they are watching streaming like Netflix, Youtube E.E and not using the old ways of watching TV which is why they are having a funding criss, which is partly their own fault for having dropped quality standards in resent years
