Why is this so?So, no "An Unearthly Child" and no "The Tenth Planet"?
Again, I feel vindicated for having the physical media.

Yep. What's even worse is that they have the Second Doctor's first episode.
From the comments, riffing off the stinger:
True -- though Chibnall's Dalek stories, at least, were generally considered high points of that era."The Crushing Inevitability of the Daleks" is too real.
Russel T. Davies and Bad Wolf Productions are out. BBC has sent the show to tender, which is a process where other companies can bid on working on the show. So the Christmas Special is officially cancelled for this year and it may be a while before we get more Doctor Who. (They have other Who Projects in the works They are referring to this particular show)

The current rumour is that no actor wants to play the Doctor at the moment as its seen as a toxic role due to all of the resent stupidly that's gone into the show and surrounding it so the special getting cancelled doesn't surprise me in the slightest as this is Karma for the stupidly!
RTD? Fan of classic Who who nurtured fan theories and ideas about the mythos and what he'd do if he got to do his own stories. Got a chance to be in charge of the actual show.I can't say that I'm surprised that this is happening. I'm not happy that it's happening, but I'm not surprised.
Doctor Who needs to grow. It needs to change and evolve and adjust. It also needs good stories and good storytelling more than anything. It...and I'd argue the wider media landscape...needs fewer people who will crap on something just to crap on it. Legitimate criticism is one thing, but "I don't like it because the Doctor's a woman/black/LGBTQ+/crybaby!" is not a valid reason to bitch about the show.
There were stories from RTD's first era that I enjoyed, and stories that I didn't enjoy. Same with Moffat. Chibnall? Most of his era I am ambivalent about, though I sincerely hope the Timeless Child wasn't done "Because I can." And I can't really judge RTD's second era, as I haven't watched it beyond the one with the babies, but I know there were bits that people liked, bits that people didn't like (from what I hear, I'd have definitely done Omega differently), and bits that they had legitimate criticism about.
We need new blood.
