Thread of Thoughts, Questions (and Maybe Even Answers) That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread

Classics Bumblebee (and Cliffjumper) and Classics Optimus Prime are two molds that seem to still be pretty popular.

Why haven't these been re-released, or, what things would factor in if re-releasing them was a possibility? (I used so many words to ask that question . . . ) The molds may be gone by this point, but G1 and Beast Wars figures have been re-released, so it doesn't seem like an impossible thing.

I don't know how these decisions come together from the manufacturing and marketing sides. I know they'd be "yet another G1-ish ________," depending on which classics molds they released. Are the size of the figures or the number of parts a factor?
I think basically the set of people who want them and the set of people who already have them are close to being the same set of people.

I've seen it without the arm doors and it looks weird. I'd slim them down but they have to be there.
They're certainly part of the design but I think there are better ways to integrate them if the design is being revisited. Either find a way to compress them so they fold in closer to the arms or even make them modular and removable so they can form a melee weapon or shield or something.

Current design direction would probably go modular slash partsforming, down to just unpegging for transformation and becoming a shield or hanging out on the back. That calls for at least two fewer hinges and whatever else.

I'd try to reorient the arms so the forearms face forwards in vehicle mode. Very G1, but that's not why I'd do it. With the arms in that orientation, the doors just need one 180 degree hinge to get where they need to go in robot mode. The elbows and bicep swivels would do most of the work.

I don't know if I'm explaining it.

The fists are in the way though. They'd need to hinge up or down to get out of the way.

I'll second TMM's comment. Just add something to secure the arm kibble in place and he's pretty good. It's the flopping around once it gets loose that's irritating. Otherwise, it's still a really solid toy.

That one looks familiar. Cool find, though.

The arms on my Classics Magnus never got that loose - I never messed with it enough for that to happen. I can see why they bug people, though.

As far as reissuing these - even on a hypothetical level - I wonder if "but we have these at home" factors in. That hurt G2 sales, if I'm remembering right. Maybe they save that kind of thing for more recent figures that people may have missed out on or series with a bigger draw like Beast Wars (that still got clearanced out around here.)

I would definitely be part of the set that already has Classics Prime, and while I would be interested in an updated version, the likely price would probably hold me back from buying one.

That said, if a simplified, Core-scale version came out, I would probably be compelled to buy 2 or 3 of it, and every alternate color scheme it got released in. The word needs more Core-scale Transformers.

At that scale I'd welcome like a G1 Op with Classics armor that can attach in robot and altmode (not clear Energon armor, just same-colored pieces sculpted to evoke plating). The extra bits around and in front of the cab, and the roof vane, turning into shields and a gun (the latter greatly simplified, maybe just a barrel poking out of the roof vane).

Hmm...

Transformers G1 first wave: 1984

Transformers G2 first wave: 1992

Eight years between releases.

Transformers Classics first wave: 2006

Likely year of release if they started now: 2027 at the earliest, I'd imagine.

21 years is slightly longer than eight. I don't think it would be quite the problem.

I don't want reissues. A lot of Classics is not great. I stand by all the criticisms I had 20 years ago. But there are ideas worth saving. Like, Classics Jetfire would obviously benefit from articulation that doesn't go out of its way to be less useful than it should be, and today's tight budgets might actually work in its favor because the backpack would undoubtedly get hollowed out.
