*sigh* Well, the first four episodes did air in theaters two years ago.

I still don't understand the TV/movie distinction/barrier here. Animation studio or movie studio, still a studio.

It's not Theater Series or Silver Screen Series or other Specific Type Series.

I would guess its more an issue that the recent versions of 84 characters already skewed heavily towards Sunbow-accuracy, so an SS84 line would be seen as redundant, or at best maybe "this figure from 1-5 years ago, but 5% more Sunbow"?
There's a few characters who might benefit from a redux, either due to scarcity or just execution falling flat, but I think there's also the very real concern that it's going to be a lot of retreads nobody really wants?

I think the original intent behind studio series was for it to be based solely on the live action films and for those to come out every other year and have figures based upon films and then combined with characters from the previous movies but then the movies steady slowed down and they were running out of characters to make, thus they decided to bring in other studios to pad out the line by having sub lines, which is how 86 was birthed into existence along with Gamer, Last Knight wasn't well received as a movie and everything kind of came to a halt if it wasn't for the BB doing a sort of soft reboot but they had to fill out the line and not run out of movie characters! The overall problem remains to this day, there's just not enough characters in the live movies truly worth doing or their designs were so stupid that they can't make a toy of them or they barely had any screen time, for example Jolt from ROTF, he was barely in the movie! The slow down in the production of the number of movies coming out, had Hasbro having to come up with a way to pad out the line more as they ran out of the notable characters and the few characters who sort of did stuff yet weren't of true note!

I think some people were hoping they'd be done with G1 toon stuff already to make room for the remaining live action figures that the line was originally about. Doing Generation 1 stuff almost certainly means redos of figures that have already gotten toys.

I just want them to loop back to Origins and give me Wheeljack, Jazz, and Bumblebee with solid plastic and improved paint on Wheeljack. The Dramatic Capture ones were nice but still had the clear parts, so structurally, not an improvement I was willing to spend a lot on.

I remember Steevy was spitballing a while back about how these lines would be rejiggered, and that did seem like a possibility. It's just simultaneously amusing and cringe that this is the direction things went. Like unluckiness says, it's silly to think there's a difference anymore other than the mainline happening to have non-G1 cartoon guys in it.

This is the most boring direction to go in, and the most boring way to go into that direction -- while still somehow holding on to a shred of pretense that this is anything more than just 85 With Knees: 12th Verse Same As The First. Let's just change the number to 84 because we've run out of ways to pretend this is just about the 1986 movie. Meanwhile, the other line that's in basically identical boxes will just do whatever but will also have 84+ in it because yeah. Hope you like Earthrise Wheeljack and SS86 Jazz still with the incredibly fragile windows, because 84 baybee.

I remember when rumors started swirling that SS86 would be ending and this obviously meant that Hasbro is doomed. Turns out they're just changing the number.
