There was a Sonic the Hedgehog appearance for Halloween and their poster had... Modern Sonic on it. But when the mascot came out, it was... Classic Sonic?

The kids still went bananas anyway.

Also, what is the music they were playing for the dance? I don't recognize it but it's a game theme.

The Chaotix 30th Anniversary comic is out and it's great. Despite the weird "Classic Chaotix doesn't exist" stance Sonic Team has, all three shined in this. Though the surprise standout was:

Amy Rose. I think she was on a date with Sonic without it ever explicitly stating that and I think the comics have a decent handle on her attraction. And it remembered that she's supposed to be funny so they get interrupted repeatedly.

Considering Sonic games sometimes do a poor job explaining the mechanics, I found this (referenced from another vid) that actually talks about how the mechanics work. Some of it is genuine changes from SA1 to stuff like compensating for some of the problems with the ports. Didn't realize how the hint system is structured with the actual hints and scoring in the treasure hunting levels.

You know, I bought it, played it for one evening, even enjoyed playing it...but I just haven't circled back to it yet.

I really did enjoy it though. My only issue with it was that I'm so used to shells, mushrooms, bananas, etc. that I just couldn't figure out what the items did in this game.

I was a little lost, too, but there's a menu somewhere in there that tells you what everything does. =)

I just can't remember precisely where at the moment... I'll update when I have a chance to look.

I predicted Nights, at the last second! I'm kind of proud of myself for that.

I'll admit, I got confused for a second and thought it could be Donkey Kong for the second one. Monkey Ball makes a lot more sense. Kind of a shame the car itself isn't more spherical. But, if you have to choose between a ball-car and a banana-car, the banana is more fun for other players.

The third one I was thinking Comix Zone, which would have been wild! But, Tangle and Whisper make a lot more sense. A little unusual that they emphasized them being from the comics. But, that is their main universe. It's just weird that Sega acknowledges that the comics exist.

NiGHTS and AiAi were no brainers and NiGHTS's hoverboard had been spoiled in a trailer. I'm surprised Tangle and Whisper are so early. I figured that if they'd show up, it wouldn't be til later in 2026. I wonder if they'll be voiced or not.

I'm out of the loop on some of this stuff, this is going to sound like a dumb question to the superfans: Is this the first time those two have been in any game? For that matter, is it the first time any characters created for the comics have been in any official game?

Yes, if you don't count Sonic mentioning Tangle in a random line in Frontiers.

No, Mean Bean Machine and Sonic Spinball also used non-game characters. MBM used Adventure character designs, and Spinball had the Freedom Fighters appear as cameos. But this is the first time comic characters are playable.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

For spinball, if I remember correctly, it was the early comic book freedom fighters, cause I seem to recall sally was pink...

This is probably the first time Tangle and Whisper have appeared in any CONSOLE game. But, they have been in various mobile games. Like the Dash, Speed Battle, and Blitz.

Also, SATAM was going to get it's own official game, before it got cancelled. Which...doesn't count, but it's a interesting bit of trivia that I don't know when else I'd get to mention.

Chances are, Ian Flynn signed ALL the paperwork (TWICE!) so that Sega never has to worry about not owning Tangle and Whisper. So, that might be why they're getting used more than some of the other past comic-characters. It doesn't hurt that they're cute.
