In any case, I think I can justify getting Synergy Blaster, if only for the cassettes.

That did surprise me, too. If you're gonna go that hard with an obscure reference, you gotta go 100%.

The cereal box is a nice reference, but not interesting enough to pay money to actually own it. That Prime mold doesn't really suit cartoon accurate colours, it's so toy coded, and the new head is pretty meh. Getting a G2 trailer would be kind of neat, but then they ruined that by plastering a huge logo on the side you'd need to strip before you could even put a G2 sticker on there.

I never really cared about core class versions of characters that have bigger toys anyway.

The tapes are neat, but it's a shame they're based on the new cassette molds that are generally bad. Blaster is a pretty meh Jem homage, if it had been a new toy it would be neat but again, I don't really need to own this.

When I first saw the Prime cereal box, I was like cute, but no real interest there. Then I see more pictures and went back to watch the guys playing around with the set on the live stream and it made me realize this is exactly the kind of thing that SDCC exclusive should be. It is something cute that has no reason to exist, yet it does and it is glorious. Now I'm seriously considering it for that reason alone.

Does Jazz have a Cookie Crips deco? I thought that Jazz was just a normal Jazz? Every case of "Cookie Crisp" specific decos I've seen have been a case of custom stickers.

According to TFWiki, Cookie Crisps version was simply a sticker modification to remove the corporate names. In that respect, we already HAVE a “Cookie Crisps” Jazz

I do think it's weird how they took a mould that's so toy specific like Legacy United G1 Optimus and did it in a Sunbow deco with a remoulded Sunbow head. Especially when the cereal box art that this whole set is a reference to just uses the toy accurate G1 box art.

I guess there is an audience for this sort of thing since most Missing Link releases get an "anime" deco... but I admit I find it weird. These are just so specially toy-referential moulds, I don't see the appeal in trying to Sunbow them up. It's not like Sunbow fans are hurting for options.

I definitely agree with everything you just said, but the one thing that makes me not mind is that I do already have the normal "toy-version" of the Deluxe Optimus, so if it was just a 100% re-pack of that toy, I'd be very mildly disappointed.

If I had ALL of my druthers, this pack would include the normal toy-head Deluxe Optimus mold in a premium deco, silver or chrome paint, painted sticker details, etc.

*Technically* a black stripe across the top of the windshield is all it would’ve needed for full uhhh Cookie Crispness as the doors already have the plain “4“.

They should have pulled a Takara, gone for the anime "deco" with the brighter colors, blue windshield and eyes, but no tooling changes.

It's almost weird seeing the 4 again since every release of the Studio Series toy had the "14" tampo, even the Dramatic Capture one by TakaraTomy.

The JEM 'collab' is weird. In addition to not making it Synergy, they also didn't go with the car from JEM.

I get the feeling once they decided to use Jem as a cover to do Kiss Players cassettes they ended up locked into a mould that was cassette mould compatible.

Now I'd have loved a Rockin' Roadster Transformer with maybe some decent 3.75" Jem figures (not too dissimilar from the Jetfire/Void Rivals set from a few years ago) but it's clear that they were dead set on the cassette idea, which limited options.

I'd have still given Blaster a new head and used the name "Synergy" though.

I'd have loved that but I also unconditionally love TR as a line so I may not be an objective person to run that idea by
