Maybe he hasn't noticed? If he did, he'll kill Rattrap. Or just maim him a bit.

I didn't figure there'd be so many female Transformers cosplayers, gosh.

You kidding? Women make up the vast majority of Transformers convention cosplays. At least, from what I've seen at BotCons.

Every fandom has a version of this. BTAS fans hated The Batman because it wasn't BTAS. BTAS and The Batman fans hated Brave and the Bold because of its lighter direction. Live action Batman movie discussion is just a viper pit of Keaton, Bale, and Pattinson stans screaming at each other while Clooney and Kilmer fans duck for cover.

And let's not even get into Transformers and Pokemon.

I do think that this sort of thing is worse in the Transformers fandom compared to some others- the aesthetic flame wars of the late 2000s to late 2010s were toxic and awful- but I don't think we're some unique fandom over this stuff. Every long running franchise has fans who prefer some iteration or another over others and complain when new stuff isn't like the stuff they like.

I think that's only partially true.

I mean, they turned the Joker from this...

It was a bit much in instances like this.

There's being on different pages, and then there's where it feels like you're reading different books.

Of course, speaking of books, that makes the Absolute thing all the more interesting to follow...

While I see your point, I feel like that's a little different.

I could have also used Beast Megatron or Live Action Megatron, if that would have been more apt? Maybe even RID Megatron, but since he wasn't originally designed to be a Megatron, felt that he doesn't count. In all cases they are designs that don't look like the original, but still have merit. That Joker has always been a favorite of mine becuase he was different. The Batman, imo, HAD to be different to establish its own identity after the DCAU. Becuase either fans were gonna bitch about it not being DCAU despite looking similar or they were gonna bitch about it not being DCAU becuase it looked different. That version of Batman had lasted near a decade. Anything that came after was gonna be hated, becuase it wasnt more of the same.

It also ignores the fact that by the end of Season 1, so very likely had nothing to do with any kinda backlash or whatever BS, he was at least wearing the traditional Joker Suit:

To be fair, Hasbro didn't just turn him into that. It was 19 years between those versions of Megatron, and the first jump was the biggest. Starting with G2 Big Stick Megatron, we get the green tank with a turret instead of a fusion cannon. So we went from G1 Megatron to this:

Which conceptually, isn't that far off from Armada Megatron. Add antlers and Shoulder pads and you are practically there. :)

Then of course we went through some dramatic changes in Beast Wars/Machines, and then RID2000 before we got to Armada Megatron. Of course none of those characters were meant to be Megatron as previously mentioned. One being a Homage to him and the other being Gigatron (IIRC).

However, I do agree that we do have a very apt comparison using Bayverse Megatron.

A totally different style, alt mode, face, and voice. Everything is different to anything that came before, aside from the red eyes.

Yeah, that was part of my thought on that.

The other part being, they kind of had to change Megatron, since he could no longer turn into a gun.

And you'll notice that people have not stopped &!+#ing about it to this very day, even when we're back to a nigh-identical robot mode.

But yeah, Megatron's had a history of drastically changing his appearance going all the way back to 1986 -- it was practically all but baked into the character at inception for a franchise that's been running for 40 years.

Comparatively speaking, Joker was more of a constant. Sure, there would be little changes, but he was almost always a gangster clown, rather than a... gangsta clown? Or whatever The Batman was going for.

Thanks for proving my point, guys 😛

I mean, there have been other versions since that weren't BTAS, but seemed to be well-received?

Yep! But I never said that wasn't the case. My whole point is that all fandoms have their segments that prefer one aspect over the others and can get critical if new stuff isn't like the stuff they like.
The video in question acted like this was some unique element to Transformers. And it really isn't.

From what I know of the design process: The Batman was more of an action cartoon, so all the characters got designed to be able to look like they could fight Batman. With Joker they also play into the fact when we first meet him, he's already incarerated in Arkham and play on his questionable sanity. As for the hair, if that's where your getting the "gangsta" bs from: Its actually meant to look like a tradtional 5-point jesters cap.

I mean I just mentioned how BTAS fans didn't like The Batman because of its differences in style and it's spawned this discussion. Which, as I said, proves my point 😛
I'm not trying to throw shade at anyone for their opinions or invalidate them. I'm just pointing out that these strong attachments and pushbacks to new takes aren't exclusive to Transformers. Or Batman. Go to a Pokemon community. "Which generation is best?" is a hand grenade.
But that's the point. All fandom can be, and to an extent is, like this. At least in some way.

Ohhhhhhhh, that makes a lot more sense! I thought they were trying to make him like ICP Joker or something.

Though I guess it's possible they might have taken similar inspiration.

That honestly never crossed my mind; that look is more reserved for Harley 1.0 in my mind, I never even imagined the Joker himself adopting it in any way.

Neat.

To be brutally blunt, the main reason a lot of people thought that that version of the Joker had dreadlocks was simply because he was voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson, the first Black actor to play the character.

And personally, I thought Richardson gave a very entertaining performance. I loved the energy and exuberance he brought to the role. He sounded like he was having a blast playing the Joker. I honestly would not mind seeing him given the chance to return to the role at some point.

Oh, I forgot he was the one playing him.

I really gotta watch that series someday.

Along with all the others and several movies since, too.

The Batman's Joker had a Black voice actor, but the character was white. We see a remnant of Joker's pre-Joker persona in one episode...
So despite the va being Black, they intended for the character to be Caucasian, so I REALLY don't think dreads were the intention there.

The Batman didn't hit on all of its reinventions, but I did like their Joker, yeah.
