Big Convoy is a nice update of the original mold with better stability and articulation. The robot mode has all the standard articulation nowadays with some notable butterfly shoulders. Big Convoy comes with a pistol in addition to his big cannon imaginatively named “Big Cannon.” He holds it well but the size and weight are concerning even when using the built in kickstand. He also comes with some piddly tonfas which barely scrape past his fist, rendering their practicality in battle questionable. The original toy anchor projectiles are present but barely noticeable when equipped due to a combination of being buried in kibble and mounting in a way that mostly obscures them. The reds and blues are nicely bright, as is the gold. The stark white works mostly for robot mode but I have some reservations. He has an energon Matrix in his chest but I couldn’t be bothered to remember taking it out. It’s painted solid plastic, a bit disappointingly. The biggest weakness of this mode is how the backpack doesn’t lock in place, which when combined with the tusks sticking out means that stuff easily gets misaligned or jostled out of place. You can store the pistol in his shin kibble or on his back. The Big Cannon can store on his back as well but even in its compressed form is cumbersome and Big Conboy's already kibbly enough without it.

Transformation is simpler than the original and stuff locks in well. The result is a mammoth about as brickish as the original. The trunk bends on two points and the ears flap forward and backward. The tusks can rotate I guess, if you want to call that articulation. While the front legs can rotate forward, mammoth anatomy doesn’t work that way. He has small anime style eyes that sort of get lost in the unbroken expanse of brown. Deco wise, this mode is where this toy falters. The bright white of the tusks is super unnatural unless mammoths had developed teeth whitening technology in the ice age. The contrast also means that the little robot bits poking through the bottom are especially visible. The beast mode is also a solid mass of chocolate brown, begging for more detail. Lastly, the plastic is cast with a glossy finish, conflicting with the fur detail. I have ideas to fix both but this post is discussing a stock fig so whatever. All his accessories store in this mode.

Overall a solid but not perfect release for Leader class. The character’s not especially prominent but this is a good toy that makes good use of the leader class budget.

How much of him, if any, is rubbery plastic? I'm skipping the first release, but the idea of a newer, less annoyingly shelly one (he is, I hope?) is tempting. I may get one if he's redecoed into nemesis prime or ultra mammoth.

He's all hard plastic. They dealt with the safety concerns of the tusks by making the ends very rounded. He's slightly less shellformery as compared to the original, actually using the mammoth rear legs and feet as part of his robot shins but the rest is more or less folded up and enclosed by the shell parts.

Thanks, all.

Oh boy, now I RRALLY hope one of those two color schemes sees regular retail. I mean, do ALL of them, obviously, but start with Nemesis Prime.

Big Convoy's big cannon being named the Big Cannon is subtle compared to Batman's Batcave, Batsuit, Batmobile, Batwing, Bat Shark Repellant, Bat Computer, Batcopter, Batarang, etc.
Tangent, but Batman debuted in Detective Comics #27. I always wonder if there were fans of Detective Comics' first twenty-six issues who were salty that their hard boiled detective anthology was being taken over by this doofus in a bat costume.

"Now he's got a bat-shaped plane? That's just impractical!"

He Steve Urkle'd Detective Comics! Get back to stories about Slam Bradley! (Full disclosure, I 100% had to look up what issues 1-26 were about. Slam Bradley was just the most fun to say of the non-incredibly-racist names I came across)
