Beast Fighter.

So happy to have this set back in my position for the thirtieth anniversary of Beasties! I had this set as a kid and getting it is a near and dear memory. It's taken me too long to get it back in my possession.

I'd love to get that set, too.

I understand that Wars has a negative connotation but could they have not picked a name that sounds like a knockoff breakfast cereal?

-From the makers of Colon Blow and Branamaniacs, BEASTIES!
"Mommy, my stomach hurts..."
"I'm afraid you don't have one anymore, honey."
-Now with marshmallows!

"The War Within started in the most innocent way. But while it all came out in the end, in that ending, we all lost..."

This isn't actually meant as a joke, what do they call the Star Wars lines in Canada? Clonies? Star Conflict? Just Yoda muttering "Dark Side..." for about twenty minutes before a nurse brings him his meds?

Star Wars was always Star Wars. The rule against "War" was specifically aimed at kids tv.

By the time the 2000s rolled around and Star Wars: The Clone Wars came out, those rules had been relaxed significantly and no one cared.

Even Scott McNeil thinks the censorship of "Wars" in the title was ridiculous and freely and openly mocks the "Beasties" name.
You know how the 90s had a big push from parents groups about violence on kids tv, centred around stuff like Power Rangers and TMNT and superhero cartoons? It was worse in Canada compared to the US. Imagine the most hysterical "WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?" people.
That's the type of person who was writing the rules and regs for what you could and couldn't do on kids tv in Canada in the 90s.

Everyone had chilled out considerably by the 2000s, as I said.

I'm just as baffled by Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles in... Europe? The UK? And Mikey's signature weapon later getting swapped out for the... grappling hook (supposedly; I'd lapsed long before that happened).

Moral guardians stuff is wild.

The regs feared that the term ninja would get kids acting voilently or something and Miky's weapon was also band for some reason or another in kids cartoons, so he got censored a bit, of course by the time the 2003 series came around, those restrictions were gone and that show really boosted the Turtles, giving it a kick start as it ditched much of the goofy comedy and returned the series back to its darker roots while still being for kids!

The removal of Mikey's nunchucks allegedly stems from a news story of some little girl, whose father was a professional martial artist, getting in trouble for bringing her father's nunchucks to school to show to her Kindergarten friends, as the girl and her friends were fans of the Ninja Turtles and wanted to play with the nunchucks in order to be like the Turtles.

Absurd colour choices are part of MW's charm.

Why is Megatron the one who doesn't have Megatron's colours? I donno. Machine Wars doesn't play by your rules, man!

Can't figure out the best (least inappropriate?) sentence construction on this one, especially after teaching middle school kids all day -

Were MW Optimus and Sandstorm gang-molded? I don't have my MW Optimus anymore, but I still have Sandstorm, and I think he uses the same olive green.

As does Prowl, too.

Without double checking, I think Thundercracker's green might also be the same shade, too.

I think Stepwise was thinking out loud about how to phrase their own post, there. Seems to have worked!

There are many reasons why Machine Wars is so fascinating, and one of them is its color palette. It being such a tight capsule also kind of makes that set of colors its own (not really something that can be said for most lines, which are both larger and have less gang-molding). This was such a small test line that it can be displayed all together easily, the better for the visual threading to come through at a glance.

Most smaller bots have a single dominant color, with some having a secondary to break up the limbs; both colors are seen on others in the line. Lots of olive green (main colors for Sandstorm and Thundercracker, secondary for Optimus Prime and Prowl) and black (on most vehicles of course, but also Hoist and the huge Starscream), heads that stick out and match other bodies (a Prowl-ish white head on teal Mirage and an olive-green head AND yellow switch on white Prowl, a black head on olive green Thundercracker, a yellow head on white Skywarp), and different figures seemingly sharing the same white and/or gray shades despite those parts probably being different kinds of plastic. (Idk if this has any relevance on being an easy capsule to do NOW, since production circumstances are probably different, but I want a capsule of these anyway for various reasons.)

This and other features make it easy and fun to romantically headcanon it as a side project that people were just noodling around with on their own time with limited resources, that then became official, kind of like Link's Awakening.
