Jesus christ, seems like ICE agents are better at detecting cancer than they are immigration status.

"Five women who were exploited by grooming gangs in Rotherham as children say they were also abused by police officers in the town at the time.

One says she was raped from the age of 12 by a serving South Yorkshire Police (SYP) officer in a marked police car. He would threaten to hand her back to the gang if she did not comply, she says..."

(Yes, I am relieved that police in mainland Britain aren’t routinely armed, and hope that they never are allowed to carry guns.)

That's the problem with police gun use in general. Bullets don't know the difference between an active criminal and a bystander. A missed shot carries a very good chance of unintentionally hitting someone else, especially in a crowded area. Heck, depending on the range and type of firearm and ammo used, a shot that hits it's intended target has a chance of hitting a bystander as well.

That's also the problem with police officers. Most of the time, the cop has no more information than the bullet does.

Rule 4 of gun safety.

And this is why the standard ammo on duty is hollow points. They're not supposed to have the penetration of full metal jackets.

Hmm, wonder if that’s the case here generally.

(Police forces are county-based, FWIW. I mean as in mainland Britain – Northern Ireland being different, and having routinely armed police.)

Of course I won’t go up to the police and ask, as likely the police person might never have held a gun. And it’d look suspicious to ask.

(I have only ever seen armed police here at international airports, the Eurostar station and at Labour Party conferences, FWIW. The latter were very heavily armed.)
