I mean, I've never been to New York. I'm from the midwest. But from what I've heard...accurate!

In other news..,

Ninjara and Slash are back. It's a one-shot, so you don't have to worry about committing to another subscription.

That statement literally means nothing without context.
Yes, that's so.
But I'm thankful that this board has been a haven from that for a few years now. 😊

Anyway, remembering happier 1990s times, I've find myself oddly nostalgic of late for a different sort of Live Action Turtle mayhem.
Namely the Saban series. I can't remember why I didn't get a good look at it when it first aired -- though the Foot get dispatched pretty quickly (within two episodes?) to make way for the villians the writers wanted to use.
Now (with Everything Turtles now part of the Skydance media oligopoly, but most of Saban's library belonging to Hasbro) this semi-sequel show is probably going to be in a similar limbo to RiD-2001.... Then again, DVDs were released at one point, my old city's library had a volume.

Mostly, I found theme song to be "a banger", as the saying goes. (Apparently "shadow credited", as was one of Saban's shadier practices of the time....)

(Oh, and in time for Halloween, they apparently had an "Asian vampires are different" kuei-jin style recurring villain to vary the plots a bit.)

I loved a lot about Next Mutation.

The storytelling, for the most part, was not one of those things.

Theme song? Awesome.

New outfits unique to each Turtle? Awesome.

Upgraded weapons, including Mikey no longer having to use a damn grappling hook? Awesome.

Trading up the Volkswagen van for a custom Humvee? Awesome.

Subway lair from the last two movies? Awesome.

Unique new villains like Vam-Ni, Silver, and Bonesteel, voiced by guys like Garry Chalk and in Bonesteel's case, entirely played by Scott McNeil? Awesome.

My favorite part, though? The new lead villain.

Look, I love the Shredder, but a dragon king from another dimension who wants to eat the Turtles so he can gain the power of the mutagen that made them what they are? That's awesome. That's metal. I love that.

I want a rebooted Dragon Lord like you would not believe.

Unfortunately, I feel like the writing really let down any promise the series had. Going in, they acted like this was going to be more grown-up than the cartoon, even the Red Sky stuff, so much so that they even dropped the "Teenage Mutant" part from the title.

Then the plots wound up mostly being watered down by juvenile slapstick. I think there was one episode or two where it worked, because they just leaned all the way into it with a silly premise from the jump (I want to say Raph and Bonesteel in a haunted house...?), but most of the time... ugh.

Maybe someday I can pitch something for IDW's TMNT...

You know me, I won't be making a Starscream's Coronation-type deal about it... but there will be signs.

I'm fine with Venus.

G.I. Joe was never a big thing for me. It's not that I didn't like it. I was just more caught up with Transformer, Turtles, Nintendo, etc. But...I like it enough that if you pair it with TMNT...well...I mean, c'mon!

And out of the box.

And along with the one true G.I. Joe toy I actually have.

So, you're saying it would have been more tonally matching for this show to have had a crossover with Masked Rider instead of Power Rangers In Space. ;)

Or at least some parts of Turbo.

Fair enough!

I just can't think of Power Rangers Turbo without thinking of stuff like them getting baked into a giant pizza.

Or this.

...which I forgot until now was in the same episode. So, point in your favor, I guess.

If they still have the Time Scepter (I'd wanted to call it a lantern -- thanks, TMNTpedia!), they could have had a crossover with Plastic Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog....😄

The more I think about it, the best Saban show to have crossed over with Next Mutation probably would have been Big Bad Beetleborgs.

You get the comic book angle. The haunted mansion full of monsters for the Turtles to interact and pal around with. The parallels between Art Fortunes and Kirby, with both of their creations coming to life. The mix of comedic and serious elements. They were even releasing around the same time! Beetleborgs from 1996 to 1998, and Next Mutation from 1997 to 1998. It would have been perfect! TMNT and Beetleborgs actually feels like a crossover that would have worked. I'd STILL watch that, even if it came out today!

I'm honestly glad they crossed over with Power Rangers in Space, though.

I was out after the first little bit of Turbo, and Ninja Turtles crossing over is what brought me back in, and I've remained a Ranger fan ever since (even if I wasn't always able to follow it). And Space remains one of my favorite series from the franchise for multiple reasons.

If NTNM had crossed over with anything else... well, that might not have happened.
