Ninja Turtles - Cowabunga!

Hmm...I think there's a few animation studios out there that I'd be interested in seeing tackle Usagi.

The first one that comes to mind is the Avatar the Last Airbender and Voltron team, Studio Mir. Sure, they're busy with all the new Avatar stuff. But, if we're just going with dream-casting things, I think they'd do a pretty good job. Plus, they're Nickelodeon, so Usagi already has a in since they have the Turtles, already.

Similarly, there's Flying Bark Productions, the people who did Rise of the TMNT and Lego Monkie Kid. Their stuff does tend to be a little more "quippy" and fast-paced than something like Usagi usually is. But, their action is usually top notch. It'd be a spectacle, if they could learn to go at a little slower pace than they usually do. It'd be a very interesting adaptation, I'll say that much.

The Studio behind Blue Eye Samurai, Blue Spirit, might be a good choice. I mean, they have experience with making a very similar type of show. Visually, they're not the most stunning studio ever, but they have the choreography down, which is probably more important.

I think Fortiche, the studio behind Arcane, could be a interesting choice. Kind of a gamble, but I think they'd be able to do something interesting with the world. Maybe lean into Japanese watercolors for the aesthetic, or something?

You know who I think might be PERFECT? Genndy Tartakovsky, of Samurai Jack and Primal fame, along with his go-to studio, Studio La Cachette. Samurai Jack and Primal are basically already Usagi Yojimbo, just with different genres mixed in. And Genndy has enough self-control to let Usagi actually have quiet moments in the show. I think that'd be perfect, if INCREDIBLY unlikely.

All these are probably never going to happen. But, a guy can dream! I think there definitely are animation studios out there that could do Usagi justice. It's just that they're all probably too expensive for a property that's never really gotten massively popular, like Usagi Yojimbo. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a few fans of Stan Sakai among the animators, though. Usagi is a indie-comics icon, after all. So, nothing's impossible.

I found this at Target today. It felt like it's been a while since I got a TMNT toy...so I kinda felt obligated.

I like the weapon, but the only hands that will hold it don't have the claws. That's unfortunate.

It actually does look nice as Shredder. Interesting color scheme. But I really bought it for the specific scene reference and I also have plenty of other Shredder figures already. So Krang possession it is!

And I just needed a team picture of these three.

Figure line of my dreams, and I can't afford squat from it.

Nor have I place to put them if I did.

Irony is not without a sense of humor, it seems.

Couldn't find Darksiders Genesis to play a two player game so convinced my friend to get Shredder's Revenge. I found a PS4 version with Usagi and Karai but held out until I saw an Ultimate Edition with Mona and Mondo! I can't wait to play it tomorrow!

Edit -

That was really fun! I didn't realize there was more to the moves (in the 21 moves tutorial at the start). My fave move in Turtles in Time is slamming the Foot left and right and now I know how to do it, though it's difficult.

Something that slightly bites but I checked the Usagi Karai version and it had a booklet.

The Ultimate Edition, which was sealed, did not have one. Boo! BOO! But I guess it's OK. Am here for the game. The booklet is just an extra that's missed.

"What if Hasbro had gotten the Turtles toy license in 1989 when they were desperate to revitalize G.I.Joe and did the same thing they did in our timeline with Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat? I think it would go a little something like..."

-ZacWilliam, April would absolutely been a Scarlet repaint and Shredder probably would have used the Slice or Dice body...

If I was into 3 3/4" figures any more I might be excited by this until I saw the price, but Super7 gonna Super7.

My favorite ninja turtles figures ever made were the ones in 2012, which coincidentally wound up being perfect to hang out with my MOTU Origins. I got the Orgins crossover Krang and Shredder due to that (I didn't have a version of either). If I was a 3-inch GI Joe collector these would probably be great for the same reasons!

You know, I hope Playmates decides to be super petty and keep ALL the tooling from the 40(?) years they had the TMNT license, just so Mattel has to start from scratch.

Granted, as licensing works, Playmates can't do anything with them, but if they FOOTed the bill for the tooling then they own the tools.

I don't really care for Fortnite, but that is one badass looking Raph that I just had to get. I mean, I don't usually like the skull-cap esthetic, but man! Everything is just looked too cool.

So, I guess Hasbro DOES have complete ownership of Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation.

I was watching Amazon’s Live TV stuff, and saw that Hasbro Legends had Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. And it’s on at the moment I’m typing this. I am amused by that *shrugs*

Did Hasbro acquire it when they bought Power Rangers from Saban? Was that some sort of packaged deal? I would have thought Paramount would have gotten that when they bought the entire Ninja Turtles IP.

Well, that's ironic.

They own a version of Ninja Turtles from Saban, but don't know if they own a version of Transformers from Saban.

An Amazon delivery? That's odd. I can only think of one thing I have pre-ordered, but that's not supposed to arrive until Dec...em...wow! While you're thinking about it, time just drags on. When you're not thinking about it, it sneaks up on you.

And a comparison with the original I already had.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe it was time for a new copy.

So, now I got this from Amazon today.

As you can see, this one Is hardcover. Shame they did hardcover for Secret of the Ooze and not the original. But C'est la vi.

You can probably tell which of the original comics I read more.

If you remember, the first movie's 35th Anniversary print recolored Shredders' helmet for some strange reason. Thankfully, they left the colors alone this time around...except for some reason the paper is white and glossy instead of yellow and deteriorating. I don't know why they have to change things for these re-releases!

Did Dean Clarrain write the original adaptation, or is this a new one?

He did write it originally and this is exactly the same as the original panel to panel.

Random thought:

How many people in the nightclub at the end of TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze do you suppose recognized Shredder as their old boss?

I wanted to say to check your local Ollies if you are looking for some TMNT toys. Mine has a bunch of reissues of the old 90s stuff there. I am very tempted to get a set of them, but I don't know where I could set them up at, as space is a premium these days.
